5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping Sci Fi page turner, 8 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Martian (Kindle Edition)
The Martian tells the story of a modern day Robinson Crusoe, an astronaut stranded on Mars after an accident leads to his crew hastily bailing on their mission and leaving him for dead.

The tale of his ingenuity and endeavour as he attempts to survive and find a way, anyway to survive and try to get home is a brilliant read. The pacing is great, I couldn't put it down, the characters engrossing and well written and the science all seems very believable to a layman like me.

I'd recommend this to anyone, not just Sci-Fi fans, it's as much a thriller as anything else and a brilliant read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thick, Nice chocolate taste but not very filling, 2 Mar 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This chocolate flavoured breakfast drink is aimed at busy on the go people who struggle to find time for breakfast.

Taken chilled it's very nice with quite a rich taste. The size is ideal as it's fairly rich and I'd find too much a tad sickly.

I don't personally find them to be all that filling though. The calorie count isn't much different from a couple of slices of toast and I must admit I find the latter more filling.

I think these can be ideal for when you really are running late and need something to keep you going, I don't think they'd replace a proper breakfast for me regularly though.

5.0 out of 5 stars The brilliant story arc that introduces us to the Hellblazer, 25 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This Swamp thing collection brings together the "American Gothic" story arc from Alan Moore's seminal Swamp Thing run.

As well as being an excellent arc, brilliantly written with excellent artwork it also introduces John Constantine, a modern classic of adult comic books who would go on to have a 300 run issue run in his own "Hellblazer" series.

This is an essential book for any fans of Swamp Thing and Moore.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential 3ds title, 25 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This 3ds platformer is a follow up to the excellent DS platformer.

I bought it for my wife who is a huge platform and Mario fan and she played it for months, completing everything as much as she could. The level design was brilliant, the game wasn't too challenging but had it's moment and it was fantastic fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and essential to operating the heater, 25 Feb 2014

These switches have been known to be prone to eventually breaking and it become a struggle to turn the metal underneath without them.

They're a little expensive as they are specialised but we got this one and it has worked solidly ever since,

I bought this for my wife who is keen on her 3DS and normally loves platformers and puzzle games.

This combined the two and kept her entertained for ages and was one of her favourites of last year. A very good game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canned air, ideal for keeping the dust out of your PC, 25 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I get these cans of compressed air to keep the innards of my PC's clean. They allow you to direct a powerful jet to get the dust out of crucial places you can't normally get to like heat sinks.

I've bought a few of these from Amazon now and they are great and a very fair price.

One little tip though, some small fans can break if they are turned the wrong way with these, so it's worth being a little careful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A series with so many twists, 25 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Attack on Titan 9 (Paperback)
The Attack on Titan series continues with this excellent collection. Just as it seems the humans are well placed to fight back, a new type of Titan emerges.

I love this series for it's intensity and it's ability to surprise. In that respect it really does remind me of The Walking Dead, nobody is ever safe and you never know what's coming.

If you've not tried the series before I'd strongly recommend going back and giving book one a go and seeing if this series grips you as it has so many. If you're reading the series, this is a must have. Excellent stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brutal and thrilling series, 20 Feb 2014
This review is from: Attack On Titan 1 (Paperback)
Attack on Titan is the first volume in a series that now numbers 11 books in the UK (soon to be 12) and also covers an excellent spin off Anime series.

I've not read much manga at all but my son picked this up as he'd heard great things about it so decided to read it and I was very impressed.

It tells the story of a world where humanity has had to retreat into a huge walled city, protected by a series of concentric circular walls, after they were attacked and nearly destroyed 100 years ago by the arrival of the Titans, brutal and seemingly mindless monsters bent on consuming humanity. amongst this it introduces it's protagonist Erren and his desire to join those fighting the Titan after a cruel childhood.

This first volume does spend a fair bit of time introducing the characters and setting up the world (doing this from the start rather than the snippets of back story often preferred in western books) and it works very well, a slow build to an excellent pay off. Once the action and excitement kick in it is relentless and brutal (and something of a theme of the series, you never know what's coming next).

The artstyle is something very different to what i'm used to and yet the slightly scratchy black and white style works very well here and helps to make the Titans feel really disturbing and freaky.

Overall a very good , inexpensive and I'd recommend it to any comic or manga fans. Give it a go, you might just get hooked.
