I find it difficult to understand how anybody who knows enough about the artist to buy this album to conclude anything other than the fact it's a true masterpiece. It's so hauntingly ethereal that it captivates from start to finish. I can only conclude the two reviews to give this a low rating have listened to it on computer speakers whilst doing something other than just listening to it! This is serious music and demands serious listening. It's also a great recording so to compress it to mp3 is a travesty! I've not heard the 45rpm vinyl but I bet it's stunning. Buy it if your a PJ fan, or buy it if you simply appreciate truly individual, carefully crafted masterpieces!

Polly is one of the few artists, along with Radiohead and Nick Cave that disproves my theory that nobody makes more than four truly great albums. The reason of course is that none of the aforementioned have let success effect their artistic integrity and are quite happy to risk alienating their audiences! This is once again a truly great album, made without any commercial considerations. Each track is like a work of art - particularly 'April' but this isn't a singles album for IPod/Itunes users rip apart. Listen to it in full on a proper hifi with no mp3 compression and it will take you to another place - a masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars A tortured masterpiece, 2 May 2009

I've owned this album since it's release and was lucky enough to catch her live the same week. Along with the Cure's Pornography, it really is one of the most fabulously 'ugly' pieces of music i've had the pleasure of enduring! I remember at the time of release there was talk of her having a nervous breakdown whilst the album was being written - you can feel it! It's one of those musical journey's that leaves you physically exhausted at end! Used to make me cry actually. If your interested enough to be reading this then buy it!
