A Riveting Read, 7 Oct 2013
I attended London Futurists on Saturday to hear Jeremy talk, I was compelled to buy this book and virtually finished it the following day; I found it riveting. It certainly provides a big picture view of the landscape of our addiction to carbon fuels; unlike most big pictures, with this one you can turn up the focus and the detail is all there.
It essentially provides a chronicle of the journey thus far; while I'm not qualified to judge the factual underpinning, it shows the same ugly symptoms we see elsewhere: politics and the press owned by big business, the short-termism of the 4-5 year political cycle, too much power in too few hands, too big to fail, casino banking and 'Rover' banking under the same roof, etc.
Financial uncoupling of politics and big business would be a great first start. Breaking up of big business, not just the banks, to form a real marketplace might foster the liberal-mindedness required to get us all thru.... A fabulous £20's worth - thanks, Jeremy!
