5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Film, 21 Oct 2011
This review is from: Topsy Turvy [DVD] [2000] (DVD)
This film gives insight into Gilbert and Sullivan, and their time, and shows how "The Mikado" came to be written and performed. It is wonderful, exciting and dynamic, and full of the wonderful humour of the writing, particularly the libretto. Unfortunately many people do not have a very rich musical vocabulary, so do not always recognise the musical jokes, (and little is made of them in the film) however the film is very well researched historically, and brilliantly executed by all. The versatility of some of the actors is superb (e.g. Timothy Spall). I think all teenagers should have the opportunity to see this film, to learn about life at the turn of the century, sex, drugs, and above all the delightful and clever music, and wonderful satirical humour of Gilbert and Sullivan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suitable for life, not just study., 24 Oct 2010
I bought this book for my son, as recommended reading by his school, and I read it first, and I think it is a great book for all. It requires progressively more thought, but it is clear and easy to read. It is excellent: suitable for life, not just study.

4.0 out of 5 stars versatile and useful cutter, 10 Aug 2010
The Hedge trimmer has small teeth, fairly close together, so cannot cut thick old wood, but is extremely good for cutting back new growth on hedges, for trimming clematis montana, without the need for ladders, and clearing nettles and cow parsley and similar undergrowth. I find it easier than a strimmer, as it does not have the same vibration, but continuous use can be tiring. The battery pack limits work a little, but gives me enough for a days use, and charges over night for more work the next day, so it goes for about as long as I would want. I am very glad I got it, as it is so useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vital Reading, 29 May 2010
I think it is vital that all MPs at Westminster read this book, and it should be compulsory before creating welfare or taxation legislation.
