1.0 out of 5 stars How dissapointing!, 15 Dec. 2008
I am sure that this is an excellent book; however, I purchased it having enjoyed Allegra McEvedy's 'Colour Cookbook' and found them, despite the different titles to be absolutely identical in every way. What a waste of money! Definately a case of buy one or the other!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Cast, 29 Mar. 2006

This is one of the best TV adpatations I have ever seen. The casting is simply terrific, as is the acting. The setting is authentic and it is well filmed. I've waited years for this on DVD - it was first broadcast in 1994. I can't wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare piece here..., 15 Jan. 2005
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this CD for the recording of 'Aux Etoiles' by Henri Duparc which is not available on many other CD's. It is a beautiful piece of music, and very evocative of it's subject. The CD is worth buying just for this piece.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 27 Jun. 2003
This review is from: Girl in a Sports Car (Audio CD)
A great CD to play in the background if you can get hold of a copy. You don't need to pay much attention to it - they are all pretty similar - very 80's in style. Nostalgic definately. Pity it had to include the more popular themes

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanting, 27 Jun. 2003
This review is from: Smetana - Má Vlast (Audio CD)
When I bought this CD I had only ever heard 'Vltava' but I found that all the pieces were as enchanting and magical as that. Close your eyes and you could be there. 1st class performance and great value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good CD, 27 Jun. 2003
A delightful selection of Victorian piano pieces from the 'Star Folio's' era. Although many of the pieces sound rather similar, they are all played excellently and accurately by Alan Etherden. Favourites include 'The Fairy Queen' and 'The Robin's Return'.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, 27 Jun. 2003
This review is from: Feel the Spirit (Audio CD)
The contents of the CD are brilliant and are typical of Rutter's arrangements. The highlight for me is actually Shearing's 'Songs and Sonnets of Shakespeare'. The quality of the recording is somewhat suspect which let the CD down. The choir are perhaps no lively enough for the fast movements in 'Feel the spirit'. 'Lord of the Dance' is a great arrangement and 'The heavenly aeroplane is brilliant although I would have preferred it with just a piano, bass and drums accompniment. Otherwise a valuable addition to any Rutter collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, 27 Jun. 2003
This review is from: Rutter: Fancies (Audio CD)
This CD contains Rutter's least know works, an in my opinion they should probably remain unknown. The only really good piece on hear is 'Good Ale' from When Icicles Hang. Fancies are rather dreary pieces which are totally different to Rutter's usual melodic style. Suite Antique is OK as one of Rutters few instrumental compositions however one can't help but feel that some movements have just been added to fill time in. The 'Chanson' is just a instrumental arrangement of Rutter's 'Carol of the Children' which appears on the Christmas CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, 27 Jun. 2003
As with the 'Cambridge Singer's Collection' this album gives the listener a good overview of the choir's repertoire which includes that of it's conductor, John Rutter. Highlights include Stanford's 'The Blue Bird' and Faure's 'Cantique de Jean Racine'. A great value album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner!!!, 27 Jun. 2003
A varied collection of pieces hear all sung beautifully. Highlights include Stanford's 'Magnificat in G' and 'Te Deum in C'. A good collection if you want a general introduction to the work of John Rutter and The Cambridge Singers.
