Fun..for about a week, 12 April 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Like many this game got its claws into me after spending many half sessions playing the demo, there was something about it that made it refreshing and different, but most importantly fun.
Don't get me wrong, this game is great, but not long after a week, you'll begin to get tired of it. In my opinion it lacks attention to detail, for example, it takes a good half mag to kill a solider, the controls take some getting used too, the vehicle handling is a bit of a joke and at times very frustrating, the story is thin at best, and after the 3rd mission starts to confuse you, it takes you forever to get from one mission to another and the grabbling hook is fiddly to handle (you'll often find yourself perched behind the enemny getting shot at, when all you really wanted to do was pull him out a tower)
The maps HUGE and quite frankly stunning, the lighting creates a wonderful ambiance in the game. But unfortunately this doesn't outweigh the repetitive nature of this game. Sure its fun running round blowing stuff, but unlike mercenaries you can't level whole buildings, you can only destroy certain marked things, which essentially takes the fun out of it.
What disappoints me most is that this game is missing a fundamental part of free roam, SIDE MISSIONS, quite frankly there aren't any, instead you have to spend time between missions blowing the same stuff up, getting chased, probably dying and starting again.
This games great for a 30 minute mess around, but it is by no means immersive..or addictive..
