5.0 out of 5 stars Just Awesome, 1 July 2007
This review is from: Libertad (Audio CD)
Libertad is one of the best albums i've heard in a long time. I think that the criticism of this album is an excellent example of how great it is. Reviewers wanting to condemn the album are having to resort to the typical Axl is better than Scott comments (when was the last time Axl released an album?) and that the album is too poppy for their liking (just listen to Let It Roll and decide for yourself on that one!)

This is definatley a must buy for all rock fans and is growing on me by the minute. Let It Roll, The Last Fight and Just Sixteen are instant classics for me but the first single She Builds Quick Machines is equally worthy of mention along with the hard rocking Get Out the Door and Mary Mary

There is no doubt that when listening to this album you are listening to the greatest guitarist of today, in my opinion of all time. His solos are as moving as ever and his riff's up there with his work while in Guns N' Roses all those years ago. Although Slash does stand out for me (and from what i have read most other listeners too), the whole band is on form with Libertad and the resulting album is one that should become known as one of 'the great' rock albums of all time *****

5.0 out of 5 stars I do not understand the negative reveiws...Amazing!!!, 22 May 2006
This review is from: Angels And Demons (Paperback)
Angels and Demons is one of the best books i have ever read. When i finished reading, i eagerly singed onto the internet to see everyone else say how great it was. However, i was very surprised at some peoples reviews. After looking at all the people who gave it low scores i started to understand why...

ANGELS AND DEMONS IS A WORK OF FICTION. I do not care about scientific formulas, the exact dimensions of the Vatican or the "account of what happens when a Pope dies and a new one is elected" as another reviewer wrote. If I wanted all of that i would buy i history book of the Vatican and a science text book. However, i presume that like me, you are looking for an interesting and exciting book. If that is what you want, you have come to the right page because this book is fantastic.

I will tell you now, i honestly couldn't put this book down while i was reading it. I started off thinking to myself how this could never be as good as The Da Vinci Code, but i assure you this book is easily as good, if not better. Even when i thought i had worked out the plot and who was at fault for the murders, the book turns around and proves me wrong. Although similar in ways to the Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons is a completeley different book in its own respect and should not be put down for being similar to the other bestseller.

At 3.99 (at time of writing) this is an essential book for anyone, and if you ignore the overall star rating and look at the reviews you will find that the majority of people think this book is great. Others are just being too picky about facts of science and the Vatican, which coincidently i thought were quite accurate!!! I highly recommend this book and think it should be a part of everyones collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars No hesitation...The Best game for PSP, 16 April 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Single player and multi-player combined makes this easily the best game on psp - at the moment I simply cannot stop playing this game and wouldn't change the UMD for any other in my PSP at the moment. This game is a landmark for portable online gaming and i'll tell you now that if you don't have your psp online already, it is worth it for SOCOM

Although I have been spending most of my time on the online multi-player, the single player is definatley in league with the best PSP games out there. The main campaign wll keep you playing for long enough for the extra unlockables to find but there is a whole lot more. Once you complete a campaign mission you can go play the same level again but this time with different objectives i.e. hostage extract, stealth hostage extract, sweep and clear, sabotage and stealth sabotage all with 3 difficulty levels.

The online though is where the game shines. Whatever time of the day you go online there are people to play on all sorts of maps. The maps are fantastic, games can be edited greatly (i.e. no rocket launchers or snipers only) and the ranking system keeps you wanting to play on. Although some people point at this game having an automatic lock on feature - i don't find this a problem because it makes you play better strategically and work your way around the enemy as a team. I think the online has to be seen to be believed - especially the support of 16 players on a map.

I do not resitate to give this game five stars because in my eyes it is the best game on psp. If you don't have access to the online facilities believe it is still worth the money as it is one of the best games out there for single player alone. The online though brings this game to a new level, and like the other revieweres here, i think it is well worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock masterpiece..., 4 Feb 2006
This review is from: Use Your Illusion II (Audio CD)
This is a completeley different beast to appetite for destruction, but worthy of the the highest praise all the same. There are so many classics here, it is not just listen to the singles and skip the filler - nearly all these tracks are superb, and numbers like estranged, civl war and you could be mine make up for the weaker tracks (but still good!) shgotgun blues and so fine.
I am not going to say that this album is better than the first because I think they need to be bought together - the first album is more of a rock album, similar to appetite while this one is more heavy on epics, hence the shorter track listing. The best tracks for me are estranged (NOT even on the greatest hits!), knockin' on heavens door, you could be mine - could go on, I think they all fantastic (if you skip my world at the end...)
If you are at all interested in guns n' roses, or are just a casual listener who has november rain and sweet child o' mine, this album is essential. It is an album that you can listen to over and over again, and then come back later and still shiver when slash goes into the intro lead of estranged. This deserves a place in anybodys record collection, and if you are browing this page with only the greatest hits, appetite for destruction in your cd collection this is a must. If you are at all interested in rock music or power ballads this is also for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Number 1 game for PS2, 15 Jan 2006
Everyone is always hyped up about GTA San Andreas and how it is the best game on PS2. After playing San Andreas I thought this too, but when I played MGS3 I had no doubt that it was simply the best game I have ever played. Starting off fairly slowly but getting better and better until the finale - this is a game you need to play the whole way through to understand its brilliance.
The storyline, unlike prevous instalements, is realistic and with my knowledge of the Cold War I managed to believe the story. This is definatley the most down to earth MGS game yet and the story alone makes you want to play to the end.
The gameplay is also the best ever and improves on MGS2 vastly. Without the radar you find yourself 'playing the game' more rather than looking at the radar and seeing whether the cone of vision of the guards falls upon you. No longer can guards only see a few metres. Wearing black camoflage in the middle of the desert mountains means guards will see you from a mile away. This is where the camoflage becomes so important - and it is not just about using the camo with the highest rating. The sneaking suit reduces your damage by half, the sorrows camo maks your footsteps, the ends camo regenerates your stamina in the sun - there is such a variety to choose from.
Each section of the game can be tackled in multiple ways. Place a book in the middle of a patrol route to sneak past with ease. Go for a suppressed headshot with a tranquiliser to keep the kill rate down. Use a loud but efficent sniper rifle but risking a caution. Sneak past using camoflage. Distract guards by throwing magazines, shooting hornet nests or throwing a poisonous frog (yes it really works!). Have an armoury in your backpack? Pull out the shotgun and ak-47 and take out every guard in the area - pure force will always work. These different ways around problems mean this is not a game to play once and forget.
The bosses are as magnificent as ever with a duel mode enabling you to play through again for the high scores. The Snake vs. Monkey extra is the best extra in an MGS game yet - once you play you will be fixated on getting all the high scores. Another extra is a demo theatre to watch through the beautiful cutscenes again, and also showing you which you yet to have unlocked.
This is easily the best game on PS2 - it has both depth, a storyline and various ways around a problem making this a must have for PS2. I havn't even mentioned the music which is the best I have heard from any game, raising the tension at every moment. Or even the disguise sections where you can still be alerted (like in real life will recognise your face as not a familiar one). I havce to give this my highest reccomendation, and I truly believe that when subsistince comes out (with online) this will be the definitve game on PS2 - whatever genre of games you are into. this game needs to be experienced from beggining to end.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good if you do not want a wireless house connection, 3 Jan 2006
This USB DS Access Point works fine but is quite expensive for what it does. You could quite easily have a wireless internet connection around your house for around £35 - if you look around you can find wireless routers for less than this price. If you ever then get a laptop etc. you can connect this up easily. If you never plan to connect anything around your house wirelessly then this works fine and gets 3 stars for that. But anyone buying this should consider that for 4 around £10 more you can have wireless internet. On the positive side, if your round a friends house you can take this with you and connect to his broadband internet. Overall though I have to give it *** simply for value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only for true friends fans..., 31 Oct 2005
You may wonder why my title for the review is 'Only for true friends fans' and I have given it 5 stars. That is because it is still one of the best shows on TV, even at its weakest series; number 7. I say the above because this is the last friends box set you should get, therefore only really being for people who want all 10 series' (well worth the money!)
Friends series 7 revolves around the build up to Monica and Chandlers marriage. And that is about it. OK, it does have some stand out episodes like 'TOW the Nap Partners', 'TOW The Truth About London', 'TOW Chandlers Dad' and 'TOW with Joey's award.' There are quite a few other ones but, I have to agree with a few other reviewers in that this time they did make 'The One That Sucked.'
'TOW the holiday armadillo,' which i think is one of the worst friends episodes ever, as well as many other watchable but quite boring episodes e.g. 'The One Where They all turn thirty.' There are just too many episodes in this series which are medioacre and that is not usually the case with friends.
This is still a fantastic season and if you really really want to get it (or you want to get all ten series') then this is still fanastic at £18 (price at time of writing). I have to say though that if you want to get one the best series' look no further than Series 2, 4, 6, 8 and you have to have series 10 for the finale. Overall a good purchase but there are so many better episodes out there, and I believe you will yourself only returning to a very selective few episodes.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Weakest Link in the 10 Series Show, 1 Aug 2005
Although I believe this is the weakest out of all the Friends series', i still think it deserves a lot of credit as it is better than most other comedy shows around. I think that even at this point when friends was not at its best, it was still better than most of the competition.
Series 7 is basically the lead up to the wedding of Chandler and Monica and although it does have its enjoyable parts, examples being the episode at the library, it does not have the energy of the earlier series' or the comedy of 8,9 and 10. I personally think that series 2 and 4 are the best of the lot closley followed by the series' before number 7. I don't know what went wrong here, but it seemed like they struggled to think of interesting storylines in the build up to the wedding.
Negative points aside, I still think this is fantastic and deserves its place in your collection f you like friends. Remember, this is only my personal opinion as i know few people who prefer the later series' of friends. Overall i think if you are a collector of the friends dvds or you want to follow the storyline from beggining to end, this is a must. Otherwise, if you just want 1 or 2 of the boxsets i would go for series 2 to see the magnificent early comedy and series 8 or 9 to see how it is has developed after all those years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unable to fault, 24 July 2005
This review is from: Gran Turismo 4 (PS2) (Video Game)
I have been reading through some of the reviews on this game and i think some of the comments are outrageous. This made me compelled to write this review to tell people it is the best driving simulator you can get for the 3 big consoles at the moment.
Someone below even gave this game 2 stars and commented on how it is too realistic. Gran Turismo - 'The Ultimate driving simulator.' What do you expect from this game? The whole point is to be as realistic as possble and simulate racing as well as possible. the person also mentioned about not being able to brake and turn. They obviously therefore know nothing about cars as in real life, this should not be done, and creates a lot of understeer. You do not see formula 1 drivers turning and braking - and they know exactly what they are doing.
Although you do get understeer/oversteer in quite a few cars this only adds to the realism. Driving around the Nurburgring in soft tires in an FF car really pointed out this realism. Because the front tires are doing all the work you get a lot of wear from these quite quickly and it is fantastic to see how the steering changes when the tires are cold, warm and red with no grip! I think these details make the game superb and if you do get a lot of understeer all you need to do is find the right car. There are so many out there you have to be able to find one to suit your driving. Whether it is an FF, FR, 4WD or a rear engine and rear drive car there is something for you.
As people have mentioned the rallying isn't great and that is one thing i have to agree with. You brake and slide around a corner to stop sliding is a lot harder than it should be. It is therefore good that rallying still doesn't take up too much of the game. I have one other complaint about this game - the variety in the actual veichles. Why arn't there motorbikes, trucks or even vans in this game? This would make it the ultmate driving simulator as at the moment it is only really dealing with cars when there is a lot more out there.
I was also dissapointed not to be able to drive around the Nurburgring in a van and try and get under 10 minutes (Topgear). Now that would have been a challenge. still have to give this game 5 stars as it is superb and anyone who thinks this game is boring should just stick to their Double Dash and other unrealistic games. There should be something for everyone here.

by Malorie Blackman
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Malorie Masterpiece..., 22 July 2005
This review is from: Checkmate (Hardcover)
Let me set the picture for you this month. Everyone has been sitting impatiently waiting for it to come out. What is going to happen next in the series, who is going to die in this book? Everyone sitting at home thinking about the next Harry Potter Book...when this final book in the series is in my opinion so much better.
The series started off with Noughts and Crosses, a book i was bought as a present. Since then I have never looked back and brought a lot of Malorie Blackmans other books, e.g. Knife Edge, Hacker, Tell no Lies, Pig Heart Boy. But there is no book i anticipated more than this. After the bad endings of the last two books didn't know what to expect, and that made the experience so much better. Actually it is like that with a lot of M. Blackman's books. I never dreamt that Calum would have died at the end of the first book.
But I think this book exceeds the other 2 in the series as well as being better than all of its competition out there from other authors. This is simply the best boom I have ever read. Not only because it is magnificantly written, but the way the book is set out is very clever and all the more engaging. It starts off describing the last day in the book. Callie Rose is 16 and she hates her mother. The book then goes back to when she is 7 and tells you the story of how this came about. At the same time you are also told the story of the present, what is happening now she is 16.
In this way you want both to know about what is going to happen at the end of the book, but also how it got to this situation. This time we hear the story from mainly two points of view Sephy and Callie Rose, but also we hear from Jude quite a lot as well as from both of Callie-Roses' Nanas, Meggie and Jasmine.
I have to give this book my highest reccomendation as i think it is the best book i have ever read. Of course if you havn't read the other 2 books, read them first, but if you are already part of the noughts and crosses story i just want you to know this is the best in the series, and not only that but more engaging and effective writing than most authors around. A must buy.
