Using one street in London as a stepping off point, this book looks at London's community at several levels, from the city bankers in the million pound houses to the polish builders who work for them and everyone inbetween. As someone born and bred in London it really rang true, people's plights and happinesses relatable within the novel.

Another great book from Miéville, this is a fantastic starting point if you haven't read him before. In a world covered in rails, where if you touch the bare earth you're likely to be devoured, a young man named Sham Yes ap Soorap goes on his first mouldywarp hunt. Borrowing from moby dick, treasure island and others, this is a book I devoured so fast and felt sad when I'd finished because the characters are so well written you'll know you'll miss them.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun little short story, 27 Feb 2013

This is a quick to read short story from a new publishing group who seems to be focusing on the e book market. Its set in a city in which anything can and will occur, and our unnamed gumshoe has to solve a murder fast to get himself and his client out of trouble. Its a mash up of detective noir and fantasy, and goes along at a whiplash pace. There's some inventive ideas and your left at the end wanting to know more about the world thats been created. Similar Pratchett's watch novels it should appeal to his fans.
