5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing, 11 May 2003
This review is from: Lateralus (Audio CD)
Words simply cant describe my love for this masterpiece and Tool.
From the opening beat of The Grudge to the crazed ramblings of Faip De Oiad, THIS is what Tool are all about. Amazing vocals, amazing guitar work and amazing drumming.
The songs:
The Grudge - Awesome, simply awesome. Maynard is better than ever and his 20+ second scream is breath taking. 5/5
Eon Blue Apocalypse - Short intro to.......
The Patient - Slow, mellow and beautiful. The slowest song on the album and easily one of the greatest. 5/5
Mantra - Intro to.....
Schism - Marvellous song, heavy chorus in the middle, and slow thought provoking verses. 5/5
Parabol - Lovely short intro, but a song in itself. 4/5
Parabola - Yes, oh yes. Stunning. This is up there as one of my all time favourites and was actually my first Tool song i heard. Love it. 5/5
Ticks & Leeches - Heaviest on the album, and arguably Tool heaviest ever. Amazing drum solo kicks it off before Maynard shows us just how vesatile his voice is and screams and makes noises not heard by him previously. Slows down towards the middle giving you the chance to catch your breath before exploding again. 5/5
Lateralus - The title track and following Tools tradition of going all out on title tracks, is awesome. Over 9 minutes of musical greatness. 5/5
Disposition - The next 3 songs in reality, could have been one long song as they all seem to fit perfectly together, but they arent and each are great in thier own ways. 4/5
Reflection - Longest on the album, tribal sort of sound to it, and very relaxing. 5/5
Triad - Absolutely stunning instrumental, intense drumming and guitars and shows how technical Tool can be.5/5
Faip De Oiad - I would have liked Tool to close with a epic song like they did on Aenima, but alas they didnt and we got this. Its strange distorted sounding with a man rambling on about Area 51 and aliens. Wont give it a rating as its not really a song.
There we have it, like Aenima its musical perfection.
Admitedly i do favour Aenima over Lateralus, but its still an AWESOME album.
If the rumours of this being Tools final album are unfortunately true, at least they went out with a bang and left us with some of the most influencial artistic music of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer excellence, 11 May 2003
This review is from: Aenima (Audio CD)
This is easily the best album i own and have ever had the pleasure of listening to.
From the opening track you know you are about to embark on a musical journey like no other.
A break down of the tracks:
Stinkfist - Perfect way to start the album and pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album. 4/5
Eulogy - Amazing song, definately one of my favourite offerings from Tool 5/5
H - Emotional and moving song, Maynards vocals are very strong on this track as he bellows 'I dont mind' again and again before fireing into another of his long screams. Starts slow and ends up being one of the heaviest on the album. 5/5
Useful Idiot - Static, intro to the next song
46 & 2 - Another very stong track, with soft and heavy parts. 4/5
Message To Harry Manback - Not really a song, another intro type track.
Hooker With A Penis - Yes! Probably the heaviest and most angst filled song on the album. Great song and one of my favourites. 5/5
Intermission - Odd sounding intro to.........
Jimmy - I have neglected Jimmy, i havent listened to it as much and usually just skip past it. But, as i recently discovered again, its another amazing song that i was wrong to overlook. 5/5
Die Eier Von Satan - mmmm in german, have no idea whats going on in this one 2/5
Pushit - Classic Tool song, one of the best. Although i prefer the Live Version from Salival, the classic album version still impresses me greatly. 5/5
Cesaro Summability - Short intro to.......
Aenima - WOW! This song is a absolute classic, amazing lyrics, amazingly vocals and whilst not too heavy, it is one of the more fiery tracks. My favourite Tool song. 5/5!
(-)Ions - Static, wierd sounds and the intro to.......
Third Eye - !! Absolutely stunning song, over 13 minutes long and again, a classic. The last minute is Maynard yelling 'Prying Open My Third Eye' repeatedly as Danny smashes his drums with unrivaled ferocity.
Well, thats it, amazing album one that no one should be without, 5 stars truly isnt enough. Buy it now or you will be denying yourself of the perfection that is Aenima.
