5.0 out of 5 stars About time, 29 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Paul Foster Case was an undoubted genius and it is about time that somebody wrote a decent biography of him.
All the better for it being someone with close connections to BOTA and a wisdom master in his own right.
I only wish there was more information about PFC's life.

This didn't do much for me, she is obviously a very talented artist but nothing remarkable in this album....hopefully in subsequent ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good if this is what you like, 29 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well-researched and written, if this is what you like then you will be pleased. It is probably not for everyone but it does give a very good practical business application to astrology.
The only caveat is that if the theory works, the author should be extremely wealthy by now, but let's not be too cynical

King Over the Water - Samuel Mathers and the Golden Dawn
King Over the Water - Samuel Mathers and the Golden Dawn
by Nick Farrell
Edition: Paperback
Price: 16.50

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good read, 29 Aug 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As an objective reader I found this book to be a really good read and it is well balanced and knowledgably written.
As with other characters of that era and circle, Samuel Mathers was strange mixture of brilliance, delusion and self destruction.

The ritual section and commentaries at the back of the book should be of interest to many people for many reasons.

Aleister Crowley - Revolt of the Magicians: A Novel
Aleister Crowley - Revolt of the Magicians: A Novel
by Lon Milo DuQuette
Edition: Paperback
Price: 11.33

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent entertainment, 23 Aug 2013
This is a wonderful read and would make a really excellent movie - top marks to Lon Milo Duquette for his work here. I couldn't put it down and sincerely hope it does get released as a movie.

As with every book, one has to consider the viewpoint of the author(s) and this comes across strongly as part of the OTO Aleister Crowley rehabilitation program that has been running for a while - not a bad thing as there have been so many negative-biased biographies in the past.

Revelations of the Golden Dawn
Revelations of the Golden Dawn
by R. A. Gilbert
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful background, 21 Aug 2013
Useful anecdotes and non-chronological historical information about the order and some of its members.
It helps fill in some gaps and must be read with an understanding for the author's personal biases.
He can be somewhat smug and cynical at times without revealing his own beliefs, at other tmes he can be quite amusing.
This book is the same as "The Golden Dawn Scrapbook" as I just found out to my chagrin.

Bota (Builders of the Adytum) Tarot Deck
Bota (Builders of the Adytum) Tarot Deck
by Paul Foster Case
Edition: Cards

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Tarot deck, but $8.50 from BOTA, 12 Aug 2013
This is the quintessential Tarot deck for the Major Arcana for Western Mystery School adepts. It is loaded with symbolism and has no "blinds".
As mentioned by another reviewer the prices here are silly as it only costs $8.50 to buy the same deck from BOTA.

1.0 out of 5 stars Papist stuff, 22 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This seems to be a Papist pejorative view of the Magus John Dee.
It focusses so much on telling us how wonderful the Roman Catholic church was and slags off Dee at every opportunity.
Lots of typos and grammar mistakes too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless wisdom, 20 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Meditations (Kindle Edition)
This is such a treasure, written by a Roman Emperor who served most of his career on the front line and was a Stoic.
Such humility and intensly deep observations.
We can all learn from this on a daily basis.

Secret Source, The
Secret Source, The
by Adam Parfrey
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 12.48

1.0 out of 5 stars Shallow, 2 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Secret Source, The (Hardcover)
This book makes an historical commentary on various supposedly Hermetic matters. It doesn't actually tell you anything of use, discusses various esoteric orders without knowing anything about them, and seems to be a largely uninformed, distant commentary on some of the most profound (and commercially abused) philosophy of the last 100+ years.
If you want to find anything useful, go to the source material like "The Kybalion" or Israel Regardie's and the Ciceros' Golden Dawn material, or read Lon Milo Duquette's current, practical and useful books.
I guess some people just want to be published authors regardless of bland, banal content - no legacy and little self-respect.
