If like me you have worked for a quango like the British Council all your working life you will immediately be able to identify with the psychotic irrational backstabbers described in this book. Ionly wish I had read it 30 years earlier and it might have given me a better range of strategies to deal with line managers only interested in their own advancement and prepared to grind you into the dirt toget on in the organisation

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just a biography, 1 Feb. 2009
Rob Dann gives a thoroughly researched and scholarly account of the motivation and personal faith of a missionary pioneer who had an influence out of all proportion to what he actually achieved in his own lifetime and whose principles of living by faith were adopted by later Brethren missionaries who punched far above their weight. His world was one of dramatic political and social instability - and the author asks if, in the 21st century, as we face unprecedented challenges in society, whether the time has come to relaunch the Brethren movement or something very like it, by returning to the New Testament pattern of living and worshipping in total dependence on God.
