5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Gilmour, 5 Oct 2008
An absolutly fantastic concert incredibly well produced and performed by gilmour and co. The orchestra really adds something great to this. The extra cd you get is also excellent with 12 awsome tracks from the tour. The documentry is a little dissapointing, but the other sessions, the 5.1 on an island and assorted extras more then make up for it. Well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic that will grow, 9 April 2008
This review is from: On An Island (Audio CD)
When i first got this album back in 2006, i thought it was lackluster and dull. However after a few listens it slowly became one of my favorite albums. Even 2 years on im finding new incredible things from this album, it just gets better and better. Gilmour is my favorite guitarist and he shows off his beautiful style amazingly on this album. There are some chilled out moments (smile, where we start), some rockier moments (take a breath) and some gut wrenchingly stunning moments (on an island) the guitar work, singing and songwriting is incredible. More please!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dull, dull dull, 6 Jan 2008
This review is from: Kill To Get Crimson (Audio CD)
as each mark knopfler solo album comes out, he seems to be sliding futher and futher down and getting slower and slower. This album is dull and uninspiring, just dont buy it!!! stupid country sounding music with no excitment at all. He is a guitar genius and yet all we hear on this album is him strumming away some stupid dull riff!!! i think this album is best summed up by the fact that he performed on the 'alan titchmarsh show'!!! infront of an audiance of old grannies tapping their feet, just the sort of ppl this album is perfect for.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest albums ever made!!!, 25 May 2007
This review is from: Rising (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the greatest albums ever. From the epic and stunning intro of tarrot woman, to the sheer brilliance of stargazer and light in the black. Every song is a classic and is criminaly underrated. Buy it now!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Under-rated Classic!!!, 22 May 2007
This review is from: Perfect Strangers (Audio CD)
This album i would have to say is my favorite purple album, just beating machine head. Every song is great and even the lesser songs are still brilliant. It holds 2 recognised purple classics 'perfect strangers' and 'knocking at your back door'. But the others are also great classics and would be more recognised if purple had played them live a few more times. 'Gypsy's kiss' is an amazing piece of virtuistic brilliance, with the duling keyboard and guitar. 'nobody's home' is also fantastic. To add to this 'wasted sunsets' must be Gillans finest vocal performance after child in time. His range and precision are stunning. The other tracks are also incredible. Even the bonus instrumental 'son of alerik' is an amazing display of musical skill. Alot of people dont like this album because it doesn't 'sound' like purple. Who cares when the music is this good? Roger glover does a great job of the production and gives it a good overall sound - Just buy it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Straits album by far, 9 May 2007
This review is from: Making Movies (Audio CD)
If you only buy one dire straits album, make it this 1 and ull be buying more!!! Absolutly amazing all the way through (apart from the dreadful les boys, but we'l ignore that) Soooo much better then the over- rated 'brothers in arms'. Tunnel of love, incredible, romeo and juliet, stunning, skateaway, underrated classic, espresso love, brilliant, hand in hand, underrated and solid rock, great little rocker at the end. Marks guitar work is so original and melodic on this album, just get it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars soooooooo much better then NEC, 24 Jan 2007
This review is from: Live In Stuttgart 1993 (Audio CD)
I bought this item back when it was released with the NEC gig aswell. Don't waste your time on the NEC gig, they've fallen out by then and its a half hearted attempt.

This CD however is a true classic Purple concert. The amazing versions of 'Anya', 'perfect strangers' and 'the battle rages on' really shine through on this album aswell as the usual classics.

All members are in great form and playing/singing as well as ever apart from possibly slightly weak vocals which is the only downside of this album but is to be expected from 20+years of endless touring so u cant blame him.

The production and sound quality are really really good all positive. This is an essential part of your purple collection and if your struggling to decide which concert to buy this is the one.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is all about disc 1, 17 Jan 2007
I would have given this 5 stars, were it not for the awful commercailised rubbish on the 2nd disc. Disc 1 and Dio is by far the best era of rainbow. The real hard rock anthems like 'long live rock and roll', 'stargazer' and 'man on the silver mountain' show you what rainbow really are and this is absolutly incredible. It will blow you away!!!

Apart from the soulful 'weiss heim, the 2nd disc is terrible with, the poor poor vocal abilities of Bonnet and Turner. (This is perhaps why the instrumental is the best track there!!!) They had clearly lost their direction by then when they could have been one of the best bands in the world.

So all in all disc 1: 5 stars

Disc 2: 1 (only for weiss heim)
