4.0 out of 5 stars Does the job. Easy to install. Looks good so far., 25 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Installed this on an iPad Mini 2 that has a small crack across the corner of the existing screen. Hoping this will prevent further damage and provide a smooth surface as you could feel the crack.

Installation was quite straightforward and the end result looks good. The protector seems to introduce some haze when viewing in bright light (outside in the sun) but is fine otherwise. Much silkier to the touch compared to original but still responds accurately to finger touches. No problems with bubbles under glass so happy so far.

Only minor problem that the kit comes with a stick-on cover for the button as otherwise this is now recessed below the raised glass and unfortunately I didn't centre this perfectly so it looks slightly off (fraction of a millimetre). Obviously this wouldn't work with the latest model as it would block the fingerprint sensor so I imagine that you'll have to live with a recessed button on the newer iPads.

Whether this would have saved my screen from the initial damage is unknown. I suspect the iPad got flexed in my bag so unlikely that it would have helped.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great little screen; awesome value!, 8 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great little screen that works perfectly if you follow the enclosed instructions to install the drivers. Reviews here that say "could only get a white screen" are most likely from those who expect to plug it in and get it working with no configuration as that's all you get if you don't follow the instructions.

Touch screen also works but is quite hard to use on such a small screen when displaying a regular x windows desktop but that's no surprise. If however you have a project where you want a simple touch screen interface and you are designing the UI yourself then this works well (i.e. design with big text & buttons).

The case that comes with this package is quite cute being made of six perspex panels that clip together. When adding the screen you take out the top panel and replace with the screen unit. The only negative for me was that I managed to break two of the plastic clips on the case when trying to fit the screen so now it isn't secured properly.

EDIT: I also thought that the holes for the USB ports were incorrectly placed however that we down to me putting the case together incorrectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy charger for a wide range of devices including GPS watches, 23 Sept. 2014

Very useful on holiday for charging various devices. Excellent build quality. Unlike some other similar chargers, e.g. Visnic Tulip, that won't charge my GPS watch (a Suunto Ambit2) this charger does.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for regular devices but no good for GPS watches, 23 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Works well, charging devices quickly (tested with iPad and Nexus 4). The charge level indicators are useful giving some idea of remaining charge. The only downside for me is that it doesn't charge my Suunto Ambit2 as the watch draws too little current such that the charger decides there is nothing connected and powers down (by way of comparison the very similar Anker charger considers the current draw to be sufficient to keep going).

Everything Will Work Out in the Long Run
Everything Will Work Out in the Long Run
by Dave Urwin
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average running book, 13 May 2014
A very personal account of Dave's life recounting his recovery from addiction and depression alongside his ultra-running adventures. This book doesn't inspire to quite the same degree as other running books but is much more touching and left me feeling that I had a (spiritual?) connection with the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, 9 April 2014

This review is from: Running and Stuff (Kindle Edition)
A really funny and inspiring read. James has some great tales to tell and clearly has a great sense of humour. The book is similar in some respects to Dean Karnazes' Ultra Marathon Man although James comes across as being more humble and down-to-earth and leaves you thinking "I could do that, well at least some of the easier bits". The book is more than just a collection of race blogs as interspersed are chapters where James considers "why I run" and reading these was quite thought provoking.

I read this book in the weeks leading up to my first 50 mile race and honestly believe that doing so was a benefit on the day as I was eager to experience the trials and tribulations that James recounted for his races, in other words I was excited rather than fearful. That James was also presenting the finishers' medals at the end of said race was an unexpected bonus!

Why not five stars? Well, there are a few errors in the book that should have been picked up during proof-reading, all very minor and the meaning is still clear so don't let that put you off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Different to the Gel 1160 model, 20 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought these as replacements for the 1160s that I'd been extremely happy with. As you'd expect there are some differences but unfortunately I just don't get on with them. I consistently get a cramp in my arch after around 2 miles. So far I've only been out in them for three 5 mile runs so maybe they just need more time to be broken in (not that the 1160s needed any break-in). The fit is still good so it's not that the sizing has changed.

I had issues with the Asics Gel Lahar trail shoes last year after a model update and migrated to Inov-8 for trail shoes. Might try Inov-8's road shoes now.

A bit about me: a regular marathon runner doing 40-50 miles a week. Been running the Asics 11xx series since the 1120s without issue (until now).

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful display, 23 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Definitely worth paying that bit extra for a Sony as the display is visibly superior to the generic (unrecognised) brands. The overall package looks good, and given that this is technology you are putting on display this is rather important! Easy to setup and everything "just works".

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb compact camera, 30 July 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The quality of shots from this camera is outstanding, almost on a par with my (now rather old) Nikon DSLR and of course way more portable. The video quality is also good, possibly better than my Canon HD Video camera! Shots are occasionally a little over exposed so I now tend to run a third of a stop under in Programme mode. One or two shots have appeared over saturated.

The GPS feature is a bit of a gimick in my opinion, especially if you switch on, take a shot and switch off again as it then doesn't have time to lock on and capture position data. For the shots that do record it, well I'm not entirely sure what to do with them. Displaying them on a map is not actually all that useful. Maybe there is a killer app on the way...? So, with hindsight I may well have gone for the cheaper non-GPS model.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor scan quality - limited software, 25 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Scans are affected by light bleeding in from the sides; can be improved by scanning in a dark room (or operating the device in a bag).

Software doesn't really allow any adjustment of exposure so you need to perform this afterwards in Photoshop or similar meaning you can't recover blown highlights or underexposed areas.

Really only good enough to go through old negatives to decide which ones should be scanned professionally.
