Amusing and original take on the "Magic reappears in the modern world " concept.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent., 26 Jun. 2014

If you ignore the character of Tariel (put in to meet the US teen demographic) then this is a great rendition of the middle bit of the Hobbit. The spiders of Mirkwood are really very scary, Beorn is great and the Necromancer of Dol Gurdur gives a great bit of Sauron's back story life. Very good indeed, even us purists can forgive the occasional female non-Queen elf in return for the rest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to Form!, 26 Jun. 2014

The Ring of Fire series has been a bit iffy the past couple of books, lots of concentration on intrigue and politics. This one is right back to where it started - adventure and high drama. I thoroughly recommend it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Storm Rising in 1945, 10 Jun. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you liked Tom Clany's Red Storm Rising then you'll like this. Same sort of style of writing - lots of weaponry detail & unit names. Indeed the plot lines are also similar - but when you think about it, there are only so many ways the Russians can invade western Europe. If I have a critisism it would be that Mr Gee is fond of recycling a few stock descriptive phrases. Oh, and everybody seems both furious and vengeful at the drop of a hat. But it really is a "boys own tale". Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooo much fun - but be careful!, 29 Jan. 2009
These are wonderful things to have. The Port (or Madeira) slides down very easily. So easily in fact that you don't actually realise how much you are enjoying yourself! They are great fun at a a dinner party and a real conversation piece. Do remember to use responsibly ;-)

Darkwar (3) - Wrath of a Mad God
Darkwar (3) - Wrath of a Mad God
by Raymond Feist
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for a long time!, 12 Oct. 2008
The last few Feist books, whilst all very good, have had the feel of "smaller" novels without the grandeur of scope that the Magician or Serpentwar series had.

This is back to the things that brought us to Midkemia and Kelewan in the first place. Vast empires, lots of magic and feeling of scale - the feeling of the Riftwar. Huge of scope - this is a rollicking ride with a stupendous ending.

There could be at least two full books in this one and I look forward to the 20th anniversary "directors cut"

Read it, and then like me - read it again.

Enjoy!
