5.0 out of 5 stars Well written romance with a difference., 26 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Lower Education (Kindle Edition)
A great story, well written. We meet Phin, who appears to be a ruthless, school hit-man, but when he arrives at this school, he finds that his history catches up with him. Can he show a more sensitive side? Can he actually do some good in this town, instead of the usual government sponsored destruction?

Read the book and see.

5.0 out of 5 stars For those who believe clergy are human., 19 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What really goes on in the upper echelons of the Church of England? Do the senior clergy in Lindchester spend their days in prayer and spiritual contemplation?

Of course not - they are human too. This story through a year in the cathedral close is touching, real, engaging. And also a whole lot of fun. It is not for those who believe their clergy are perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible debut for an incredible band, 25 Sept. 2013
This review is from: The Temperance Movement (Audio CD)
I first saw The Temperance Movement live at the Greenbelt festival, and was blows away. rocking, pounding music, really tight, a fantastic show. If you get a chance, see them live, because they are just stunning.

The question was, could they put that energy and power into a recording?

Oh yes.

There are solid stonking rock tracks, there are quieter, more thoughtful tracks. They achieve both with passion and feeling.

My favorite track? That was a challenge. Normally an album contains a few poorer tracks and a few stand out pieces. This is an exception - I love every track. There are none that I want to skip over. But I think Serenity is just winning the favorite award, partly because it starts quiet, and builds beautifully. It finishes the album off superbly.

I can hear influences from Bon Jovi, Led Zep, Cream - but I suspect that the real influence is from the music that drive these groups - the blues, and the power drive that the likes of Jimi Hendrix added to this.

This has to be one of the best debut albums for a long time. Just go and buy it, you won't regret this.
