Science (no) Fiction (yes). Guess classed as SF because aliens involved. Far too much introspection and too little action for me. Then again, been spoilt having just read Andy Weir's page-turner, The Martian

Poor unsophisticated writing. And I'm bamboozled/confused by the punctuation - dashes instead of quote marks for speech. Makes it hard going.

Didn't want a phone on my arm, just a notifier. And it does that excellently. And no other 'smartwatch' can compete with its 7-day battery life.

Works well on my 48in TV standing across corner of room. As too long, fixed about 4in from top and turned two ends down for about 8in giving all round ambiance. Plugged into TV's usb port, comes on when TV switched on. Seems to improve picture contrast, so am well pleased and - unlike some - no grumbles about price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like one or two other reviewers, 2 Nov. 2014

Like one or two other reviewers, when I first paired this with my Samsung tablet I found the mouse cursor jerky and lagging and I thought: 'useless'. Next day switched on and it's smooth and instant, behaving just like a mouse should! So well pleased.

2.0 out of 5 stars Got worse over time, 8 Nov. 2013
Had this machine for ten months. Started out OK, although changing amount of water delivered very iffy.
But after eight months, capsules got jammed or didn't pierce properly and water unable to get through. It kept signalling water had run out when in fact tank was full. Switching on and off at the wall sometimes sorted it. Then eventually nothing came out of the spout at all.

The only reason I give it two stars instead of none is the excellent service provided by the Nespresso Club. A courier picks up the machine, they offer a loan model, and a week later your machine is returned repaired (supposedly) - all for free in the warranty period.

But in my case, a week later it was playing up again with all the above faults. More phone calls, and the Club offers to pick up again.

But I've paid a lot of money for this, not to mention wasted capsules at the not-cheap 30p a time, and I've better things to do with my time than to keep arranging for repairs.

I'd definitely not recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works - sort of, 28 Sept. 2013

On very hot days, it does blast out cool air, but doesn't really cool a whole room (especially when the guide says use near an open window or door). But is better than a fan when sitting in front of it!

Worst part is emptying out the water tank, recommended for regular cleaning. It's impossible, with a hard to remove bung at the bottom (which is not even detailed in the user guide). You need to tip it up first to get at it. And guess where all the water goes!

4.0 out of 5 stars A delight, 28 Sept. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After a week (mostly setting up, installing my programs and transferring GBs of data), this is my take.

It's easy to be negative because of small niggles and because of Windows 8. The latter, however, was easily overcome by installing first thing Start8 (www.stardock.com/products/start8/) that despite its name gave me Windows 7 desktop.

Pros:
Lovely-looking, high quality finish. A sophisticated bit of kit.

Compact with just (for me) right sized screen that is sharp.

The Windows side very quick at handling standard tasks, but I have yet to try the demanding rendering my own edited videos. Not greatly used yet the Android part.

Nice-to-use wireless keyboard. Will be interesting to see how long its two AAA batteries last.

Brilliant for lifting off the 'screen'/tablet that can be laid flat on the coffee table to play games (especially for the kids).

Built-in TV with remote control. A surprise bonus that works well, although I'm not sure how much I'll use it.

Sound quality easily surpasses that of a laptop. Like an average portable radio, I suppose, good enough for videos, tv etc. But not like having separates.

Amazing quick delivery by Amazon (ordered late Saturday, arrived Monday morning).

Cons:

The wireless mouse. I hate it. Its uncomfortable long pear shape makes the buttons difficult to reach and the touch slide substitute for the traditional wheel was unresponsive. I ditched it and plugged in my old Logitech wireless mouse. It meant having to use one of the usb3 ports but having four is a luxury for me anyway. It also means it doesn't work when in Android set-up, but in that mode I use it as a tablet anyway and am happy with the touch screen controls.

The quick start guide for the computer set-up was missing. The one for the tablet was there, but that's mostly a guide to Android, with which I'm already familiar. There is an e-manual on the computer, but that means you have had to have already set it all up, as well as connecting to the Internet to activate the Adobe reader to see it! Luckily I could download a manual on my old PC (not, though, found on the Asus website).

Noise: there's a fair bit of 'tummy rumbling' when the 2tb hard drive is busy, but otherwise it's silent.

The power button on the tablet. It seems to need a hard push right in with a finger nail to get it to respond.

Overall, the Transformer Aio is a delight and on its performance so far would recommend it - if your pocket is deep enough!
