5.0 out of 5 stars hard work, but its worth it, 4 May 2007
this isn't really a five star album, but i gave it five to even it out - you cant give it only two stars. it is a bit of a mess, but there are moments of amazing music. alot of it might start off very rough and hard to get in to, but it works into a groove that is as raw as any funk you have heard. even if you dont like all of this, it is worth it for the versions of maggot brain and all your goodies are gone. if you're really into the earlier funkadelic albums, which in my opinion are the best, then this is well worth getting.

5.0 out of 5 stars not bad, not bad, 9 Mar. 2007
im not going to write a serious review because im only a kid. i would just like to know why the person who gave one star thinks that something so bad is capable of producing depression - surely it has some power over you? it did for me; i felt almost sucidal after reading just some of this book when i was only seventeen, so be warned, there's a darkness to this text like no other i've experienced before, but it's because it's real. im reading it again now and im in love with it, the writing draws you in so that time can pass without you even realising. if it's actually the worst book you've ever read that's an achievment.

5.0 out of 5 stars a must have, 18 Feb. 2007
although i completely agree with the previous reviewer - it is not filmed particularly well, you dont see enough of the musicians and it is sometimes annoyingly edited - i had to give it five stars, because nothing could really hinder the enjoyment of this dvd. george clinton is god like in this concert. the set list that amazon gave is wrong. it goes like this - cosmic slop, do that stuff, gammin on ya, standing on the verge of getting it on, undisco kidd, children of production, mothership connection, swing down sweet chariot, dr funkenstein, comin round the mountain, p funk, give up the funk, night of the thumpasarous peoples and funkin for fun. if you are a p funk fan you really must get this

4.0 out of 5 stars good but not great, 2 Jan. 2007
This review is from: THE KINGS OF FUNK (Audio CD)
this is a compilation that is definitely worth getting if you are heavily in to funk. there are some brilliant, brilliant songs on here, and many that you would probably never here unless you were a dedicated collector. for instance, skying high's 'getting off on your loving' is a song that in my opinion can match much of the best of parliaments output and i have never, ever heard of them. there are a few weak songs though and its kind of a disjointed listen. rza's selection is probably the strongest of the two, but keb darge has got the real gems. if your looking for an introduction to funk, then your probably better off going for some james brown or sly and the family stone compilation. or mothership connection by parliament.
