amusing, moving and a wonderful way of telling the story of the relationship between father and son through good times and awful times, dealing with problems & conveying a wonderful mental picture of a slightly eccentric British middle class family. I absolutely loved this. Cried at the end which is unheard of for me, I found the depth of love (despite the frustration) between father and son totally inspiring

Interesting, insightful & inspiring. The story of some of his patients with explanations of what made them tick. I found it moving & it helped me gain insight to myself as well. If you have an interest in psychology then this is a "must read"

4.0 out of 5 stars well written, 11 Sep 2013

Well written, a good story, complex, loses nothing in translation. A very good police story, but in my opinion it is getting a little dated. The character still is interesting & the plots wonderful, the political undercurrent still relevant but I am glad that the more recent books have followed the times & are more current. Doesn't stop this being a really good read.

A gripping complicated dark murder mystery. I enjoy reading Wallender books they are a good balance btween his personal life and the crime he is investigating, I enjoy the glimpse into how other countires do things. This book as the title suggests has part of it's action in Riga. It is set at a time when things were very different, politically & scientifically in police work. An interesting book, a good crime but personally I found it a tiny bit dated

5.0 out of 5 stars I like it!, 11 Sep 2013

This review is from: Before The Frost (Kindle Edition)
This book has given Wallender a new lease of life. His daughter has just qualified from police school & they both get caught up through different routes in a gruesome unpleasant murder. I personally find that the early Wallender books have become a little dated but this brings them up to date, there have been so many scientific developments since they were written that at times I started to find them dated, bringing his daughter in has revitalised an excellent series of stories & I shall be reading the rest. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars compact useful little book, 11 Sep 2013

small format, reprint of a popular series from years ago, practical old fashioned recipes would make a nice little gift or useful for student or someone who does not want shelves full of cookbooks with recipes that no one eats

Some of the skeins are rather large & to me are cheating! I thought these patterns would be for what I would call a skein (max 100g) but some of them are for huge skeins. I was disappointed with this book, nothing there that excited me, errors in some patterns, I would say if you want some patterns to use small amounts of wool look in the knitting mags, their patterns are less contrived & more useable, & you are more likely to find something you want

This review is from: Animal Hats (Paperback)
These hats are different. They come in all sizes & if you want to walk about with an animals head on yours then they are good patterns that work in the main, although some of them are a bit thick and lumpy and might not be very practicle
