This is an excellent book to support A Level and Access courses. It enables the students to either prepare for classes using it or to take their own learning initiatives by working through it as an extra throughout a course. The exercises are compelling and the workbook stimulates and inspires students in this vital area of Sociology.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine CD, 1 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Tony Hatch was the producer for Petula Clark's most commercial era in the 1960s. He wrote classic songs for her such as Downtown and I Know A Place. However, he was a star in his own right through his other production work for his then wife, Jackie Trent, for future Coronation Street actress Sue Nichols and he later wrote the theme from Neighbours. This CD brings together for the first time his best tracks and comes highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic still, 1 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This work remains the classic work on British youth culture. A product of the Birmingham School of Cultural Studies, it examines the style as subterfuge of the punk era and has become the basis for most serious evaluation of youth culture ever since. As fresh as ever, if you have not read it for thirty years, it will repay a revisit

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful box set, 1 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a superlative box set that tells a story relatively unknown in the UK, of the formidable and innovative Chicago Vee Jay label, which had the foresight to be the first label in the US to issue Beatles tracks but which also took on numerous other artists who made an impact. The box set offers a comprehensive overview of the label in its peak years and comes highly recommended.

Verney's work is the leading synthesis of the US Civil Rights movement and the debates surrounding it.. Superbly written and utterly reliable it is perfect for both sixth formers studying English/Welsh Advanced level and for undergraduates. It also comes highly recommended for those studying for international qualifications.

Riches's book is a fine summary of the history of the Civil Rights Movement. It usefully considers the key points and the different strands of the African-American struggle for civil rights in a way that will be helpful to both undergraduates and sixth formers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable new book on early Stuarts, 9 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This marvellously written book really draws together the history of the early Stuart kings and creates a compelling and readable narrative that can be used by undergraduates, sixth formers and the general reader. Bang up to date as a synthesis of scholarship, I heartily recommend it.

Never to be Forgotten
Never to be Forgotten

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary record of Jersey Nazi occupation, 9 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Never to be Forgotten (Paperback)
Joe Miere lived through the Jersey occupation by the Nazis in World War Two and he was imprisoned by them. He saw his friends betrayed by a Jersey government that acted as a buffer against the Germans but too often made egregious errors. He remembers those like my grandfather, Frederick William Page, who were imprisoned for offences like listening to the BBC and who died in prisons as a result. This aspect of the history of World War Two in the British Isles is little known, but these people may be "gone" but they should never be forgotten. This wonderful book helps to right the grave wrong done against them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but worth every penny., 9 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Here Come The Nice (Audio CD)
This new box set pretty much contains every version of every song recorded by the Small Faces during their Intermediate years i.e. in their best period. It is expensive but the music and the extras make it well worth it as the Small Faces are among the very greatest and most influential of British bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible, 8 April 2014

This is an original guide to a world now disappeared, the world of the smoke-filled Folk Clubs where authentic folk music flourished and developed. Interviews with key figures in the British folk movement bring a lost magical world alive. A wonderful book.
