Very pretty photos of scenery, sea, sand and sun. Short, but sweet. I'll be dreaming of tropic isles and volcanic beaches for years to come.

It appears that this book, which was probably quite a good read in the author's own language was butchered by a poor translation. It actually looks like it was put into Google Translator and left as is, and as so is riddled with error after error. I should be happy to help the author with the text so it reads better in English if he so wishes, but it is quite unreadable the way it stands.

This is a Japanese diary that spans 4 years which is translated to English, each short (usually one-line) entry is followed by a picture of a Shiro. For the most part, these are not exceptional photos, and this is not exceptional writing, but some of that may be due to the translation. Like facebook status updates we follow 4 years in Shiro's life. This is ordinary life but we see an extraordinary relationship emerge and this journal becomes a love letter to a cat who only lived 8 years, but brought joy to the family who adopted her. I enjoyed this little book and look forward to the sequel from Shiro's next 4 years.

This review is from: Lingerie Noir 2 (Kindle Edition)
Whilst this is a nice little collection of retro pin up girls, it is evident that there could have been more care in producing the book, the pictures appear to be downloaded off the internet or scans of other work. The first picture contains a 'Previous' button as part of the image, for instance, but what strikes me most is that not only is there is no credit given to the original artists, but we aren't even told who they are. It reminds me of a schoolboy's notebook where he has pasted his favourite catalog ads, some of them appear to have been cut out rather badly, part of the original picture is often missing.
However these can make nice references for poses, and at free the price was right.

"..And through some mooned Valhalla there will pass
Battalions and battalions, scarred from hell;
The unreturning army that was youth;
The legions who have suffered and are dust.."

Siegfried Sassoon (1886-1967) was an English poet, writer and soldier who was a leading WWI poet who was decorated for his bravery on the Western Front. His poems painted the stark horrors of the war, and in 1917 Sassoon publicly opposed it. You can't help but be touched by these eloquence of these 64 poems that gave him legendary status.

A complete collection of Rimbaud's poems as he wrote them.
Rimbaud (1854 - 1891) was a reckless libertine who wrote his stunning poetry in his teenage years, and then and made a conscious decision to quit writing forever before the age of 20. Victor Hugo hailed him as "an infant Shakespeare", and his poems are still the anthem of restless youth.

Aleichem Sholom : from the Fair
Aleichem Sholom : from the Fair
by Sholem Aleichem
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars An exceptional autobiography, 4 May 2013
The remarkable memoirs about one of the finest storytellers who ever lived, sprinkled liberally with poetic licence (according to his great-grandson who I had the pleasure of talking with a few times). Sholom Rabinowitz, better known as Sholom Aleichem (Which roughly means, hello, how are you?) wrote in Yiddish at a time when it was looked down upon as 'common'. His Tevya stories were made into a film you might have heard of - Fiddler on the Roof. But this is his own story, his adventures through life, and are filled with wonder and heartbreak as they paint a stunning picture of a time that has unfortunately been left to history.

I checked this book out of the library last year 3 times. I'm a vegetarian, but I loved this attractive book. If you are put off by pictures of roasting animals, it might not be for you but it was full of wonderful soups and sandwiches and salads and some of the other recipes could easily be modified. What can i say? i love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for sing-a-longs!, 21 April 2012
i've got both of these hal leonard books with the 1200 songs and i can't recommend them enough. i bought this one when it first came out before it was updated and it has followed me around the world for nearly 20 years. there's something in it for everyone and you can sing and play along for hours. mine's battered, the pages are all falling out, but it's definitely one of the best investments i ever made.
