Ten Thoughts About Time (New Edition)
Ten Thoughts About Time (New Edition)
by Bodil Jönsson
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.98

3.0 out of 5 stars bit disappointed to discover it is a self help book, 26 Oct. 2010
...... my fault as I bought it following a reference from somewhere else. Reads okay but as I said more self-help than extending knowledge on 'time'.

Fanx Ta-Ra/Misplaced Ideals
Fanx Ta-Ra/Misplaced Ideals

5.0 out of 5 stars Agreed- thankful they made this onto cd, 26 Oct. 2010
... I have never been able to understand why I adore these two albums. Fantastic album covers aside, when some of the lyric is just plain naff I think the answer is that between the excellent voice of Paul Young to the tightness of the playing as a group whole it just seems to work for me. Would sound dated to the youth of today but Sad Cafe were a seminal band up north in their time- have to say I didn't like it when they made TOTP- culture snob. Very good value for money.

Sennheiser HD201 Closed Dynamic Stereo headphones
Sennheiser HD201 Closed Dynamic Stereo headphones
Price: £17.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible value for money., 17 July 2009
for the price you get quality headphones that are an ideal daily use product. I purchased them for use with a monitor in an art exhibition -in an echoey concrete space- chosen because of Sennheiser quality agst price if they got stolen- absolute bargain. Comfy, good sound quality and good length of lead- might buy another pair because the price is such value for money.

Sound for Film and Television

by Tomlinson Holman
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Sound Bible but yet very readable.., 17 July 2009
-in the context that I read it, as an artist with sound as part of her practice, I found this a very stimulating technical read. Comprehensive with nice large font!! Chapter 2 - psychoacoustics of sound- highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imminently readable, 17 July 2009
Would recommend this as a very user friendly introduction into thinking about sound/music/technology and how the arts have been stimulated and cross influenced back like a worm eating its tail. The clarity of thought and obvious knowledge of the contributors make this so refreshing; for myself I have found it fun to read amongst all the heavy weighted theoretical writings surrounding this subject. Read this alongside The Rest is Noise by Alex Ross. David Toop's books will then be easier to read as his books are chocka-full of references. The Rest is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century
Haunted Weather: Music, Silence, and Memory (Five Star Paperback)

The Eisenstein Collection
The Eisenstein Collection
by Sergei Eisenstein
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars Had to skip the first bit - letters to editors-, 17 July 2009
and nearly put book down completely as I thought it was going to be biographical whingeing for the real 'eisenstein and his whole minutae of life afficionados' but then it grabbed my attention as writings on his art began- particularly noteworthy are the chapters on Disney and the psychology of composition. As relevant today as it was then.
