Lucky Jim

2.0 out of 5 stars Dated and overrated...., 10 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Lucky Jim (Paperback)
Unreal characters that say and do illogical, nonsensical things. Vaguely amusing. Overrated and definitely of its time. You can see where young Amis got his style from, particularly in the Rachel Papers. Both father and son have very little idea about human nature. Conversations and actions bear little relation to folks in the real world and you can spot the ending a mile off.

it's a classic. read it. a lot of the subject matter is common sense skulduggery but the key is no one had written this sort of thing before.

The Card (Twentieth Century Classics)
by Arnold Bennett
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Be transported to a different time, 2 April 2014

The Card is an entertaining read. You're rooting for the hero who you suspect is going to come up trumps at every turn. My enjoyment came from reading about the early twentieth century in the five towns around Stoke.

4.0 out of 5 stars good cartridges but you need to go to Stinky Ink website to get info on how to use them...., 13 May 2013

reason i say this is because Epson, who are a bunch of crooks, programme their printers not to accept compatible cartridges. however, luckily, there's a description on Stinky Ink website which tells you how to get round this.

if you have any interest in British politics and lived through the seventies, you should buy this book. it's great, and it will remind you that in some things our society has improved. it will also remind you just how close we were to not having to suffer Thatcher.

difficult to avoid Samsung on the tv front, as they've cornered the reasonably priced end of the market. this tv seems to do everything you'd require of a tv. picture is fine. just avoid Samsung fridges - they're crap.
