5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful addition to the play therapy literature, 13 April 2011
In this book, Sue Jennings presents her developmental model of play therapy. The material is presented in a clear way, with plenty of examples to bring the theory alive. Integrated into her model is sensory play and dramatic play, and I particularly like the idea of a sensory box that is described on page 85. Appendix one includes a list of play therapy materials and appendix two outlines a developmental checklist. This books is a wonderful addition to the play therapy literature. Readers interested in this topic might also like the following books:

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Resource, 22 Mar 2011
In this important resource, Sue Jennings outlines her Neuro-Dramatic-Play (NDP) approach. This model shows how play-based activities can be used in utero and in the first months of a child's life to strengthen the mother-child attachment. The table on page 158 and the appendix is particularly helpful. The book also describes how the NDP approach can be used with specific populations such as neglected children, children with learning disabilities, and children on the autism spectrum. This book is an important resource for parents and professionals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good foundation book, 11 Nov 2010
This review is from: Play in Family Therapy (Paperback)
Eliana Gil is the pioneer of family play therapy and she has written a great foundation book for clinicians who seek to blend family therapy and play therapy. I particularly like the chapters on integrating play therapy and family therapy. Gil also presents some wonderful techniques for use in family sessions. Other books I recommend for therapists who conduct child-focused family therapy include:

Family Play Therapy (Child Therapy Series)

Family Art Therapy: Foundations of Theory and Practice (Family Therapy and Counseling) (Family Therapy and Counselling)

Creative Family Therapy Techniques: Play, Art & Expressive Activities to Engage Children in Family Sessions
