Lieutenant (An Ell Donsaii story #3)
Lieutenant (An Ell Donsaii story #3)
Price: 2.39

3.0 out of 5 stars Superhuman protagonist, 10 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first book seemed a nice coming of age book and although there was no resolution, I thought later books would develop the character of Ell and that the story would also become more interesting. I was disappointed to find the book was another in which there is no story. The protagonist is superhumanly lovely, super-intelligent despite being vacuous as well, athletic, but doesn't seem to take the military career this book is about very seriously.

The first book seemed a nice coming of age book and although there was no resolution, I thought later books would develop the character of Ell and that the story would also become more interesting. I was disappointed to find the book was another in which there is no story. The protagonist is on a boyfriend quest and is superhumanly lovely, intelligent, athletic, and excels in things like swing and break dancing. The last should have been an interesting quirk in her character, but the author makes it clear this is another great accomplishment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, 10 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book continues the coming of age story of Ell which was quite pleasant reading in the first book. The books are very short, however, and later books in the series were quite a let down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inclusion of boring aliens, 10 May 2014

The first book seemed a nice coming of age book and although there was no resolution, I thought later books would develop the character of Ell and that the story would also become more interesting. I was disappointed to find the book was another in which there is no story. Ell is boring in the way she gets Olympic medals, nobel prizes, the highest awards for bravery, and is incredibly lovely and expert swing dancer. The inclusion of the primitive aliens to the story is as riveting as reading about a pair of crows with names and their lives in the crow community.

The last should have been an interesting quirk in her character, but the author makes it clear this is another great accomplishment. I had hoped that by book 4 there might be an explanation for why Ell is supergirl, but there isn't even a hint of it. The inclusion of the primitive aliens is as riveting as reading about a pair of crows with names and their lives in the crow community.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fairly unreadable, 28 Mar 2014

I found the character of Eleanor thoroughly boring, did not get beyond the first few chapters as I didn't get the situation or even a glimmering of the plot. The book was vague and woolly.

Honour's Knight: Book 2 of Paradox

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, 28 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The first of the series was not as readable as this book, but overall it is my kind of series. The protagonist is a strong female character, the story is a space opera type with military space fiction elements, the romance was not sickening but was leavened with humour. The story flows nicely.

I enjoyed the book and looked for other books by the same author and was disappointed not to find any.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 28 Mar 2014

The book was a good read. The protagonist was appealing, his reactions and solutions to the problems he had to live with were novel and romantic in an Indiana Jones kind of way, with his ruined fortress hide-out and his gung ho approach to people who encroached on his space. The mystic element was a bit weird, but not over sentimentalised, so I didn't mind it .

I was delighted with them to begin with, but the glue doesn't last, and they rub against your heels if you wear them for any length of time and actually walk in the shoes. I was rather disappointed in them.
