1.0 out of 5 stars Comedy?, 22 April 2010
Never watched this first time around but having heard so much about it and it running for so many seasons I thought I would give it a go. I have to ask is it meant to be a send up/comedy? I thought it started ok with the idea of the time structure etc. but in no time at all it becomes pure farce, the cliches come thick and fast "I love you dad, I love you son, I love you dad, I love you son" and many variations thereof they really have used up the book in this case. Other reviewers seem to focus on how gripping it is but I felt it was so predictable I could have happily turned off at any point.

A great deal of the dialogue I could quote before the characters even said it, it was that predictable and corny. Also the characters are so one dimensional and poorly drawn they have all the depth of a puddle and as such I could not feel anything for their plight there is simply not one character in the whole show to empathise with or care about. The plot does not have holes it has canyons/craters it is simply so OTT and far fetched that at times I found myself laughing hysterically it was so bad. Maybe I should have given it another star for comedy value but don't think it needs the help the only disturbing thing about this show is how so many seem to take it seriously, if you want great TV don't watch this get The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, Rome or any other HBO drama you can't go far wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, 20 April 2010

Quite simply a masterpiece and one of the greatest animated films of all time. A perfect evocation of childhood by a master animator, if you haven't yet seen it what are you waiting for?

2.0 out of 5 stars miscast!!!!!!, 19 April 2010
Have to say i did not think the series terrible but it was only loosely based on the novels and i personally found the earlier adapations with john hannah much closer to the books. I also thought john hannah was much closer to the rebus described in the books than ken stott, i think he is a great actor but i don't recall any passage in the books where rebus is described as short and tubby rather tall and thin. I also found most of the other actors totally miscast and this spoilt it somewhat for me i suppose this is bound to happen with such a much loved character and everyone will have their own image of rebus after so many novels its a very subjective thing. i know john hannah was a bit young for the role but just found him much closer to the image i pictured from the books and when youve read so many books and formed such a strong image of the character its very difficult to accept such a difference.

5.0 out of 5 stars shame, 9 Mar. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent series hence the five star rating but such a shame its been released like this, no extra features, very basic packaging, no chapter selection for individual episodes. In short this has had no expense given to its release which is a terrible shame for such a wonderful series.

1.0 out of 5 stars hype all the way, 21 Feb. 2010
This review is from: OK Computer (Audio CD)
This is not the best album of all time, of all the albums I have ever owned (I sold it long ago) this is the most hyped and overrated. There is nothing new here, it has all the emotional clout of a spoon I think people are mistaking whingeing for emotional depth. If you want emotion/innovation listen to Diamonda Galas, Tom Waits, the Young Gods, PJ Harvey, Martina Topley Bird, Mariza, Ali Farka Toure, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonic Youth, M.I.A I could go on but you get the picture there is a world full of music out there. I think the only reason this has such favourable reviews is the type of person that generally reviews for magazines, white middle class males, for gods sake girls aloud are more emotional and innovative than this load of whining drivel.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT ONE OF HIS BEST, 26 Jan. 2010
This review is from: Thirst [DVD] [2009] (DVD)
First off this is a black comedy albeit with a lot more on top of that and having a lot of other korean films will not disuade you of the fact. Its part vampire film part love story but strays into other territorys as well, but as the director himself says most of his film are mainly thriller genre pieces that stray. I thought it was brilliant and one of park chan-wooks best yet and would recommend it to anyone a little tired of the current western idea of reinventing the vampire genre.

3.0 out of 5 stars could have been a contender, 14 Jan. 2010
Overall this is quite a fun game and not bad at its price but it could have been so much better. The main problem is the repetetion all the missions are pretty much identical. Also there are numerous bugs/flaws in the control system and gameplay in general, the combat is very poor and the implication that this is a sandbox type of game is very misleading as the gameplay is really very linear, you have no freedom to complete objectives any way other than how the developers want you to. That said it is quite fun for a while and looks very good the cityscapes are beautiful and the landscapes feel real but it could have been a true classic.

1.0 out of 5 stars pointless, 10 Jan. 2010

if i could give 0 stars i would, this is quite possibly the most pointless film i have ever seen the only interesting thing about it is the mystery of how on earth it got made.
