5.0 out of 5 stars modern masterpiece, 20 Aug 2011
This review is from: True Grit [DVD] (2010) (DVD)
excellent film with stand out preformances from everyone especially hailee steinfeld, it totally eclipses the john wayne version as it is far more gritty and beautifully shot and scored and lets face it john wayne could not act his way out of a paper bag so to sum up a modern masterpiece

5.0 out of 5 stars beats hollywood garbage easily, 6 July 2011
This review is from: The Man From Nowhere [DVD] (DVD)
This is an excellent thriller with a plot, great acting, superb cinematography and a very violent ending. Yes it is very influenced by leon, man on fire and taken to name a few but i think it surpasses all those films as it has a better more complex and satisfiying plot. It seems to be that Korea is making some of the best cinema around today so if you want to watch a film instead of the reheated garbage that hollywood turns out give this or any other Korean film a go.

5.0 out of 5 stars unfairly rated, 2 July 2011
This review is from: Pig Island (Paperback)
I loved this book and thought it absolutly the equal to any of her other novels its very creepy and atmospheric and though i realise everyone has different tastes the level of vitriol in some of the other reviews is a little hard to understand. I do note though that if you actually wade through all the negative reviews many have been counted two or even three times how this happens i do not know, why amazon?

Have to repeat almost everything in the other review, an excellent adapation of a great book with a great cast its funny warm hearted and tragic. The only thing to add is its been ten years since it was first broadcast and has never been repeated why?

5.0 out of 5 stars great fun, 2 Jun 2011
This review is from: Trick 'r Treat [DVD] [2007] (DVD)
A really fun homage to 80's horror anthologies with a more modern way of intermingling the 4 story arcs its funny and entertaining and not really meant to be scary, great fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, 30 May 2011
Absloutely masterful crime drama makes most british crime shows seem like childrens programming. It really makes a change to be treated like an adult instead of a child with attention deficit syndrome. I actually watched this in 2 10 episode blocks its so gripping i simply could not turn it off.

5.0 out of 5 stars lost classic, 2 May 2011
This review is from: Lou Bond (Audio CD)
This really is a lost classic being way too ahead of its time though it does have a lot in comman with marvin gaye and isaac hayes it also has influences of nick drake and other folk etc beautiful orchestral arrangements and something to say as well it also reminds me of winter in america by gil scott heron for its raw emotion. In short get it and discover a gem.

1.0 out of 5 stars yawn, 29 April 2011
This review is from: The King of Limbs (Audio CD)
Another radiohead album another bore. Quite why so many people are so obssesive about this very average and mediocore band i don't know maybe its because they are so average that they appeal to a wide audience. Anyway they still don't appeal to me, i can only accomodate so much whining drivel with or without guitars the one good point at least its short.
ps i will not be reading any comments left as i am sure they will be the usual sort of infantle rubbish that seems to be left for anyone with a different opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars mesmerising, 28 April 2011
This review is from: Confessions [DVD] [2010] (DVD)
Just watched this last night and am still thinking about it, it is chilling and haunting and will leave you thinking long after the credits. It is beautifully shot with a limited colour palette adding to its icy tone and a superb soundtrack. Also has quite a few extra features which i don't usually bother to watch but on this film they actually sound interesting and worthwhile.

1.0 out of 5 stars oh dear, 27 April 2011
This review is from: Surface Detail (Hardcover)
Hate to give up on a book but this is tedious, i used to love iain m banks and iain banks but cannot be bothered wasting my time on this drivel. Like a fair few other reviewers i feel his science fiction has gone rapidly downhill from the algebraist on and as i have a pile of books waiting to be read will not be bothering with any more of banks output in the future.
