3.0 out of 5 stars Engaging, but soulless., 30 Mar. 2015

This review is from: Silk Road (Kindle Edition)
Well written but flawed. Characterisations gave complete skeletons but failed to flesh-out the bones. The author has glimmerings of talent but needs to develop his storylines further, needs to give us a reason to empathise, to sympathise, put simply - to like his characters. Worth the 99p I paid for this, just.

3.0 out of 5 stars Let down by sequel., 29 May 2014

Too many characters, too wordy - classic example of spinning out a narrative with waffle. Shame. The first novel promised so much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this quackery., 26 May 2014

Overrated, overpriced, oversized & completely underwhelming. It must be "yeah man this is good s#•t" - type hippy talk that keeps this product selling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor, 11 Dec. 2013
Don't even bother reading the sample provided by Amazon. This author has all the writing style and lucidity of a 3-legged tortoise. Another example of "creative writing" classes gone very, very wrong. No sign of originality, wit or humour. Turgid, turgid prose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sense!, 22 Sept. 2013
Every "world-leader" should be made to sit down, read Umair's inspired prose, sit back, reflect, and then act upon the wisdom contained therein. No ifs, no buts, read, act, reap the rewards.
But they won't. No way. Not a chance, because the vested interest, financial clout, plutocracies that have put them where they are would trash, trample upon and burn this worthy tome and the common sense writings it contains, at their soonest opportunity. This is a sad bit inevitable truth of the world we live in now - those with money get wealthier and more powerful on the backs not of some vast, Marxist proletariat, but actually by fleecing the unspoken middle-class majority who do JUST ENOUGH to get by, with the odd night out and the occasional holiday away., yet at the same time are unable to rise up and question the plutocracies due to constraints of family, time and job commitments. And so it goes on...........

= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
Generic, badly presented, poor graphics, repetitive gameplay. Don't bother wasting your hard earned cash. Keep it for Far Cry 3 instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book called Malice., 4 Mar. 2013
Good solid 4 stars, nearly 5. Rollicking storyline, plenty of good, old-fashioned hack and slaughter that never let's up. Well drawn out characters that are developed throughout the tale. Nothing really new in the content and main storyline but done with erudition and vigour - all in all an excellent read. I for one cannot wait till the next book in the series is released.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oh so slow to start......., 24 Feb. 2013
This review is from: Great North Road (Kindle Edition)
You need to plough through the first half of this book, another weighty Hamilton tome, until the story really gets going and then it never lets up as it races towards it's icy climax. Well worth it though in the end, persevere fellow reader, persevere!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dire, 15 Feb. 2013
Appallingly badly written, derivative and so, so tedious. Characters poorly defined, predictable storyline ( hard done to hero is punished for being honourable, loses the love of his life, is exiled blah de blah de blah).
Lazy portrayal of landscape where she has tried at all, complete over-reliance on monosyllabic words until you feel like you're being bludgeoned to death by "and, but, so, then" etc etc.
Do not waste a single penny on this uninspiring trash - save up for the latest Joe Abercrombie novel instead!
