Radar, a tool so common today that one takes it for granted. This book gives you a good account of the development of radar from the very very begging until the present use of it. It's role in the battle of Britain and the fact of the German s development of radar and the way the Germans use it this book tells you that at an early stage of the war German radar was better than ours. This book deals with a commando raid by British paratroopers, navy and R,A,F to pinch component s from German radar installation and the success of that mission. Very well written, very informative, a pleasure to read. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read that tells what the film left out and retold, 14 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
the book has satisfied me as to what actually took place in Goa Harbour in March 1943. the film is entertaining and nice to watch but is not the true account, which the film could have done with ease. The leading German spy in the film is killed in a struggle with Gregory Peck's car , but in reality Herr spy is kidnapped along with his wife and arrives safely in British custody. I am at the point in the book where the boarding of the principle German ship is taking place and there is no mention as to Mrs Cromwell the German Number two spy in the movie. this book is must read for those who love to read what the British in war are good at. Commando raids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent account of a well known Naval saga, about the Bismarck, 2 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having read this authors account about the battle of the north cape with destruction of the German Battlecruiser Scharnhorst I thought this book would give a good account of the Bismarck action and it does. It is 90% about the action from the British point of view, and is the view of ordinary sailors at the time. This not just a book of facts and figures this is about the about the people who were there officers, ordinary sailors and there reflections of the battle. Very good read. I will be looking to buy more of his books.

5.0 out of 5 stars what you expect from a Bond film, 2 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Diamonds Are Forever, along with Goldfinger are the two best Bond films. and on Blu-ray they are superb. the picture is sharp, and the colour is fantastic it seams as if these films where made this year not forty years ago. I have all the Sean Connery Bonds as well as all the Daniel Craig's now for the rest. except for one Aussie disaster. well worth watching.

The Battle of North Cape: The Death Ride of the Scharnhorst, 1943 (Campaign Chronicles)
The Battle of North Cape: The Death Ride of the Scharnhorst, 1943 (Campaign Chronicles)
Price: £7.19

5.0 out of 5 stars Good account of the Death of the Scharnhorst, 17 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
If you like accounts of a single action in that huge conflict that was World War II this as good as it comes. This book deals only in the battle that resulted in the destruction of the German Battlecruiser Scharnhorst, and it's aftermath. It is an account that looks into both sides of the battle. We'll worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good replacement for Judge Deed, 17 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Missing those good stories that was The Deed. These are very good, if you like a good and riveting court room drama, this is for you. 12 good stories. Some dealing with a completely evil gangland boss and his bent and equally corrupt brief. These shows also put the police in a bad light. We'll worth watching

5.0 out of 5 stars What a shame that these appear to be the last of one of best of BBC's drama's, 17 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Judge John Deed has to be one of the best drama shows the BBC has ever done, it is on a par with By Sword Divided, and many many others, but sadly this appears the end unless someone knows better. Silk is as good, I hope the Beeb do another court room drama show soon. Two very good stories, one of a British army private charged with war crimes, (the bias of the French Judge and the French prosecutor) is disgusting to see. The other deals with a corrupt pharmaceutical company and the British Governments complicity, is also very good. Highly recommend this to anyone who likes good court room drama. I think the writer of these to two stories is having a good and quite rightly go at the government of Britain's most dishonest pm ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and informative., 17 Nov. 2013

Accounts of the naval war of world war 2 are to me very interesting and this one was well written, the sort of book you find easy and enjoyable to read. I particularly like single ship accounts or books or articles about single events such as reading about the battle of the north cape, which i read immediately after this book about one Germany' s merchant ship raiders. The Penguin was the most successful of the German Navies raiders. She intercepted and captured two entire whaling fleets plus many others. In the end she was caught out by one of the Royal Navy's 8 inch cruisers and nearly pulled a stunning victory. This book has inspired me to look for other books about Germany's other merchant raiders. The rest of the book tells something of the career of the Admiral Hipper, which had a somewhat mixed career. This book is well worth the price and is a good read, enjoy.
