A high quality book, covering the work and personality of an important, but little known outside Turkey, photographer. Vassilaki Kargopoulo, official photographer to the Sultan during the last years of ottoman rule, captured in atmospheric portraits, the court and elite of a declining era.
Bahattin Öztuncay, has compiled rich material, photographs and other documents, and has put together a rare book.

Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty: A Fashion Fairy Tale Memoir
Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty: A Fashion Fairy Tale Memoir
by Camilla Morton
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £12.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Funny but not great, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The idea of bringing together importand fashion designers in order to illustrate a "metaphor" of fairy tales in the world of haute couture, may be smart. I have not seen the other two books in the series, but as far as this one is concerned, I was expecting something more spectacular, given the extravagant style of Christian Lacroix ....

4.0 out of 5 stars A charming book by an expert on both fields, 29 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Helena Matheopoulos is a person with vast experience and knowledge in both fields: Fashion and Opera.
Having worked over the years with many important people and having accumulated an extensive archive, she has put together an elegant and often spectacular account of the presence of some top fashion names in the world of opera productions. Meticulously researched and full of glimses to the magical universe of opera backstage, the book would be interesting to any opera aficionado with a taste for haute couture, and vice-versa

4.0 out of 5 stars For the fans of the Wallpaper* guides' style, 17 May 2011
Short, condensed, fast-paced, this guide may not appeal to the average travel-guide buyer, but will please those accustomed to the style of the Wallpaper* series.
As always, interesting - if not budget-minded - choices, with an eye for design, trends and, happily, some atmosphere too.
For those familiar with previous titles in this collection!!

Food From Many Greek Kitchens
Food From Many Greek Kitchens

5.0 out of 5 stars A feast for the senses!!, 1 Nov. 2010
As all the previous books of Tessa Kiros, this one is sheer pleasure: a feast for the eyes (extra praise to Manos Chatzikonstantis for the photos), a glimpse into local culture on every page, a big and well-chosen variety of recipes. Tessa's collections exude not only her love for her work, but pure "joie de vivre" as well. I can't wait for her next book to come out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, if somewhat abstract, 1 Nov. 2010
This review is from: Eye for Color, An (Hardcover)
A very interesting take on the complex world of color combinations, the book proposes some useful paths to explore and certain informative aspects of the subject. The overall impression, though, is one of a theoretical excercise, which will require a lot of effort and guts on the part of the inexperienced reader in any attempt at practical applications. Still, a pretty book with certain beautiful pictures for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jamie did it again!!, 8 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Jamie Does... (Hardcover)
Well, I have only superlatives for this new Jamie book: a celebration of food, of travels, of "joie de vivre". Even if I did not cook, I would buy it for the sheer enjoyment of this beautiful edition. And the recipes, mmmmm........., somewhere between mouthwatering and inspiring/inspired. I wonder what Jamie will do next!!

Morocco Chic (Chic Guides)
Morocco Chic (Chic Guides)

4.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular, 13 May 2009
Like other ''chic destinations'' guides, this one simply dazzles the reader with an account of ultra chic Moroccan hotels, residences etc.
Anyone leafing through it, will be tempted to dream of staying in these places coming streight from the pages of ''One Thousand and One Nights''.
Of course, how many can afford these palaces is quite another story....

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection in small format, 13 May 2009
As with all ''Photofile'' volumes, this one gives a compact account of the work of A.Kertesz (one of the great photographers of the past century). His ''atmosperic'' views of various places, in particular of Paris, never fail to pull the reader into his hypnotic universe.
