5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful synthesist, 7 Feb. 2011

Judging by the other reviews here, most people quickly fall in love with Burkeman's warmth and self-depreciating style. His writing quickly draws you into the subject - even the ideas which might normally provoke your cynical self to go on high alert. His ability to take ideas from business, psychology and science and provoke us to think about their relevance to our lives is truly wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 10 Jan. 2007

It changed my life. It brings together in a simple holistic framework the key dimensions of how to have more energy in your life. I have worked with several people who, having read the book, found profound change possible - that's what really made me read it, not being a fan of what I initially imagined to be a self-help book. It's much more scientific than that. Really excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creating the line of sight between strategy and action, 31 Jan. 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Out of everything I read in 2005, this had the most profound impact on me in terms of getting ideas into reality. The authors have nailed the central problem facing so many organisations. The 'What' and 'How' don't align. A great strategy, good people, but poor results. The Workforce Scorecard pinpoints why this happens and provides a really simple and clear solution. It's not easy to implement, but it's certainly clear! Although it might seem like a book aimed at the HR community, it should be ready by senior managers/leaders who want to turn their organisations into star performers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Remember airfix, 29 Dec. 2005
This review is from: Disney Snow White Cottage (Toy)
This is not an inexpensive toy, yet the manufacturer expects you to spend between 2-4 hours assembling it, depending on how committed you are to getting it right. Around 100+ parts are formed on spindles like an Airfix kit and they are a bugger to get off. Each one needs a modelling knife to remove potentially painful rough edges and the windows fall out immediately. Whilst the finished product looks OK, it's nasty and cheaply made. Don't buy unless you've got more money than....

5.0 out of 5 stars Jenny delights, 10 May 2004
I picked this up as a bedtime reader for my three and half year old. Many of the story books we read seem to be too simplistic for her and this bridges the gap with more complex books. Although written in the 1940s it has a beautifully engaging style with little morality tales woven in, but not the in-your- face stuff that most modern American kids stuff seems to wallow in today.
We both loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A pragmatic and creative approach to the new brand agenda, 12 July 2001

Timacheff and Rand have managed to put a pragmatic framework around the intangible subject of branding. What's good about it is they clearly understand the subject but don't weave the normal black art around it and they deal with the issues systemically, making it of real business value.
