5.0 out of 5 stars Hear this record, 10 Nov. 2002
This review is from: Seventy One Minutes Of (Audio CD)
There are records that should just be heard by everyone. This is one such record. Its not that this CD defies description, plenty of words come to mind, it's just that you should cobble you own version of what it is and how you see it. With that being said, it is a seminal Krautrock record that aches for your ears. Technically, it consists of two unreleased records, Return of a Legend (minus one) and Faust Party 3. Sonically, it is a pastiche of sounds and synths from a small farm house in a galaxy far, far away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a good listen, 10 Nov. 2002
Live at My Father's Place would rank as a great record by anyone. However, it's just not a great Captain Beefheart record. Great sound, good variety of numbers, and decent enough performance by the Captain. It's no Lick My Decals Off, but what is these days. Maybe the earlier Magic Band set the bar too high. It's definitely a good listen, tho.

5.0 out of 5 stars FMP C&W: free at heart, 10 Nov. 2002
These recordings bring together two long standing members of two very different improv communities. Both discs incorporate a seamless blend of Chadbourne's singing and guitar playing in, at times, fairly straightforward context. Other times the improvs between him and Lovens provide the listener more depth than distance that they sometime brings. Overall, the humor and warmth in these recordings are definitely some of the best moments. Unlike other free improv records that lock and load on one sound relentlessly [not saying that's a bad thing] Eugene and Paul drift and flow like two new friends excited by the world each is crafting. Definitely one of Eugene's most memorable records of recent -- the Good Doctor has finally found his perfect foil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mid-tempo Euphoric Excess c. 1992, 10 Nov. 2002
If you wanna party like it's 1992, then this, my friend, is a double barrel blast of mid-tempo indie sputter cut just for you. The core S-n-E LP is presented here with much better sound [you'll notice the bass lines you’ve never heard...] w/o interfering with that classic sound. Beyond that, you get quite a good deal more: The Watery Domestic EP [compact bliss]; some Peel Sessions, the orig Summer Babe 7-inch -- with the jaw dropping Baptist Blacktick track, the Sue ME Jack 7-in and a slew of live tracks that bound to make you remember how much fun it was to see Gary do handstands across the stage -- and possibly into drums.
