5.0 out of 5 stars The background to a rural affairs icon., 9 Mar. 2016

An interesting insight in an icon of rural affairs. The story behind his childhood, the television programmes and his work for the NFU etc. A great background to Jack's own books 'Out of Town' and 'The Old Country'.

A beautiful book. The lovely photographs and Jack's informative text are excellent. Something to settle into an armchair with in front of a roaring fire and a mug of tea. A sunday afternoon book. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE DOCTOR LOCKED UP, 20 Dec. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really enjoyed this book. Considering it was written before Peter Capaldi appeared on screen the characterisation is almost spot on. The style is strange for a Doctor Who book but the story fits, with the narrator being the prison governor. All in all an enjoyable read, the 12th at his best.

5.0 out of 5 stars It would make a brilliant T V episode, 20 Jan. 2015
Highly recommend this 12th Doctor book. It actually 'plays' in your head like an episode. Mike Tucker (author) really has captured Peter Capaldi's doctor brilliantly (especially the bit when someone starts playing with the sonic screwdriver....but I wont spoil it) the speech and mannerisms are spot on. Good pacing and scene setting. I dont want to put it down but then I'm faced with the dilemma of finishing it too quickly. Oh well I will look out for this authors other works.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!, 31 Oct. 2013

This is worth getting just for the Judge Dredd story alone. Excellent artwork by Jim Murray (who did part 2 of Die Laughing). His Dredd is fantastic and the characters supporting the story are well rendered as are all the little details, the lawgiver and the lawmaster bike. The rest of the stories are ok with mediocre artwork. If your a Jim Murray art fan GET THIS MAG!

This is a great book. An asset in my Mayan collection. Highly recommended for anybody interested in Mayan or Mexican peoples and their history. Plenty of diagrams, photos and text. Well worth adding to your library.

This guide is a bit dated now, but worth reading for background and general info of the Mayans and their amazing cities.

The British Museum Pocket Dictionary of Aztec & Maya Gods & Goddesses (British Museum Pocket Dictionaries)
by Clara Bezanilla
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, 6 Jun. 2013

This is a great basic guide, almost equally split between Aztec and Maya. A good insight into the main gods of both peoples with large colourful illustrations of each. However, it lacks on real detail. Ideal to stuff in a knapsack if visiting a museum containing Aztec/Mayan items.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating, 6 Jun. 2013

This is an interesting work. The 'glyphs are broken down into their component parts, with good detailled explanation. I find this an excellent book to use with Coe's 'Breaking the Maya code'. It's also useful when looking at hi res scans of actual Mayan artwork. Highly recommended for those interested in deciphering Mayan or for those that like a varied library.
