First 1000 Words in Arabic (Usborne First 1000 Words)
by Heather Amery
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars great starter book!, 5 Feb 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
good fun book meant for kids but I am an adult learner and find it useful for the most part.

Only drawback is there are no english written words next to the pictures and a couple of the items are ambiguous, but it is a quick and easy way to pick up vocab. Not bad as a starter book.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent book, 5 Feb 2011
fantastic and very in depth working words, great for those tricky nouns especially in business or medical situations.

Only bad point is the size of the print, as the book is handbag size, the actual text is tiny!

4.0 out of 5 stars sex in the city with veils on, 2 Nov 2009
This review is from: Girls of Riyadh (Paperback)
Love this bit of alternative chick lit, a proud boast for the sexuality and desires of modern women in Saudi Arabia, it rang as very true to me, the characters made me smile with recognition of the types of people I have met personally in the Gulf.

If you enjoy Sex in the City you will love this. (Not much sex though admittedly)
I would like to read more serious offerings fromt this author on womens lives in Saudi, this was a great start.

2.0 out of 5 stars cringe making, 2 Nov 2009
This review is from: Dubai Creek (Paperback)
I bought this in a bookshop in Dubai, curious to see what the author had to say about the city I knew.
I found myself cringing through most of it, it accurately depicts the typical arrogant deluded type of expat that Dubai is overrun with, but apart from that it was a shabby messy read.

I have reread it once recently, and I still cannot decide if the author intends his main characters to be so despicable, or not.
A laughable read, a bit like a night down the pub with a load of expats.

And truly hideous cover art, equally cringe making, sums it up really!
