This new-fashioned typewriter was delivered on time and beautifully packed. I am enjoying using it enormouslly and learning all the new things than it will do. Best of all, I shall not be dependant on a ghastly printer to write letters!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful thing.............., 10 Feb. 2013

Someone gave my late husband one of these which was passed down to me. I carry it in my handbag all the time and it is often taken out and used.

Highly recommended - it is absolutely flat and the scissors, knife, etc. really are usable and useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gripping account......, 10 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I remember when this book was published quite a lolng time ago that I made a mental note to read it but it just didn't happen. A recent conversation with fellow-travellers on a train persuaded me to track a copy down. It proved really worthwile and I enjoyed every bit of it. Elspeth Huxley's account of her childhood in Africa when white settlers were acquiring land they had little idea what to do with and their relationships with each other, the native Africans is both interesting and enjoyable.

Highly recommended!

Typical Penelope Lively! It is beautifully written and quite difficult to put down. Her characters are all so real and natural that it really matters what happens to them.

4.0 out of 5 stars What we already know ................., 10 Feb. 2013

A useful book, reminding us what we already know - that we have far too much clutter. Also, interesting for the light it shines on American Quakers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Some Country Houses,etc, 10 Feb. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The book will probably be of interest to those who are not familiar with James Lees-Milne's diaries and books. I know them well so the book was not really of great interest to me.

Pity, as the book is nicely produced but only for those who have not read J. L-M's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Poems - UA Fanthorpe, 15 Dec. 2011
This review is from: Christmas Poems (Paperback)
A delightful book. U.A. Fanthorpe made her own Christmas cards for friends, illustrated by sketch by a friend (Nick Wadley) and including a short poem. The poems are personal, sometimes quirky and fun, but always interesting.

Particularly recommended to those who are searching for something different as a contribution to a Christmas do, whether at church, chapel, meeting house (U.A. Fanthorpe was a Quaker)or just with friends.
