5.0 out of 5 stars Great item, 20 Jun 2014

For any fan of Labyrinth, this is a must-have present. Beautifully presented film cells from the film are mounted in a frame, allowing light through to show off the cells. We are now thinking about how to get light to the cells as we don't want sunlight to fade them.

The item was superbly packaged (cardboard box outer, bubble wrap inner and a hard panel to protect the glass) and promptly delivered.

Recommend the item and the supplier.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could they have made it any smaller?, 14 Feb 2014

As I said in my review of the matching earrings - it is the same size as an earring! Way too small. A pendant should be larger than the accompanying earrings. I went out and bought an additional present as I felt a bit embarassed handing this over as a main present.

4.0 out of 5 stars An oddity - an album I really enjoy... but don't ask me to name a specific song!, 14 Feb 2014

This review is from: Join The Dots (MP3 Download)
I really enjoy this album - but I could not tell you one song from another! Admittedly I usually play this when I am reading (it works perfectly for that purpose as I can concentrate on the reading and let the music take up what concentration is left after) on my iPod Touch.

Very enjoyable, with nice psych touches but, for me, it gets played as background music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice earrings, 14 Feb 2014

They are a nice size, enough to be subtle, not too large or too small. Shame you can't say the same for the matching pendant! It is the same size as the earrings! The pendant should be larger, to befit the part of the body where it will be worn. If you want to but these as a stand-alone gift, then they're fine. If you want as a combined gift with the pendant, don't bother.

The Hunger Games Complete Trilogy (Hunger Games Trilogy)
The Hunger Games Complete Trilogy (Hunger Games Trilogy)
Price: £10.44

5.0 out of 5 stars Great series of books, not just "Teen fiction", 27 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The pace and structure of the Hunger Games is excellent. You find yourself sympathising with the characters and wanting to see what happens next. Given the core of the tale (the games), the description of the violence is kept to a welcome minimum, allowing your imagination to fill in the gaps. The central character, Katniss, grows from teenager to anchor, and the development of her relationships with the other characters is well handled.

These books have been bracketed in the same "teen fiction" area as Twilight etc. Forget it, they are a strong read for any age group.

Highly recommended (and pleased to see the films are staying mostly true to the books)

Psy Mind: Calculated Risks (Book Two)
Psy Mind: Calculated Risks (Book Two)
Price: £5.24

3.0 out of 5 stars This sequel, like the originsl, was hard to get into but worth the effort, 15 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
My initial problem was the leap forward in time from the first 'Psy Mind' novel, with no real explanation about what happened. This meant too much of the early stages were taken up in building a new premise around the unexplained developments.

This time the book dealt with it's cast of characters in an easier to follow way. But it takes too much time to get to the 'Psy' part of the story.

That said, when it does, this turns into a very good book indeed. If you enjoyed the first book, then this is worth reading (especially for the second half).

I get the feeling there is a third (hopefully concluding - three books will be right to finish the story) book in the pipeline; if so I hope it brings you into the tale faster and sets up the narrative from the off - once these books get going they are very good, they just take their time with the build-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic stand-alone story, 15 July 2013

This review is from: If You Were Here (Kindle Edition)
For anyone new to Alafair Burke's work, she is best know for her two series of novels, about Detective Ellie Hatcher and DA Samantha Kincaid respectively. If You Were Here is a stand-alone novel.

But it is classic Alafair. A simple premise (kid steals iPhone, gets chased by victim) turns into a much bigger storyline. A missing person, being chased down by a number of different people for very different reasons, a 10 year old court case is somehow connected. A diverse range of characters come into play, all connected by a single thread... not that they know it.

The story moves at pace, from the simple start to multiple threads, before being drawn back together for the gripping conclusion. Burke is an expert in weaving the strands together, moving the storyline out into different avenues then tying it all up neatly.

This is one of those books you want to rush to see how it ends, but want to take your time so you do not miss something that might be vitally important later.

Read this book. If you are an existing fan of Alafair, it will not disappoint. If you are new to her writing, this is a cracking place to start.

Psy Mind: Deadly Reckoning (Book One)

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to get into initially, but worth persevering, 10 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
At first, I found it hard to keep tabs on who was who and if they were important to the plot. And a memorandum that comes half-way through the book could have been useful at the start to explain what a CF2 (for example) is.

But once I got into the book, the central theme was an interesting take on telepathic abilities; What if they were recognised and the owners of such talents were assimilated and regulated into/by society? And how far could those talents go?

At times the narrative is a little slow (a book dealing with telepathic abilities isn't going to be an action adventure!), but it picks up pace and the end passages are genuinely gripping.

Worth a read - I enjoyed it enough to start on the sequel straight after.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound for budget earphones, 13 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The clarity of the sound is impressive for budget earphones: I find I'm hearing lyrics far more clearly than with the more expensive Skullkandy ones I had before.

The mushroom earpieces don't feel secure, but have yet to fall out of my ears.

If you're looking for a decent set of earphones at a reasonable cost, give these a go.

1.0 out of 5 stars 1st half interesting 2nd half DIRE., 26 Dec 2010

This review is from: Doppelganger [DVD] (DVD)
This film started out as an interesting idea: Does she have a twin? Is she insane? Is she possessed?

Sadly, by the end the only question you'll be asking is; how much longer do we have to suffer this film.

The storyline goes off the rails about half way through. There are lots of pointless scenes that do not seem to tie in. And the ending is painful and pointlessly gruesome.

The only redeeming factor for fans of Ms Barrymore's figure is the shower scene - go find it on YouTube for free rather than pay for this awful film
