I haven't tired of listening to this cd and have played it often. Great soothing music which isn't intrusive if you have serious thinking to do.

A Heart So White
A Heart So White
by Javier Marķas

5.0 out of 5 stars Listening to a storyteller.., 9 Nov 2013

This review is from: A Heart So White (Hardcover)
A very interesting style of writing because it feels as though you are sitting at the feet of a storyteller who gives you thoughts and details as they pop into his head. All the different threads of the story tie up and repeat through time so that you have a sense of recall, but there are also things left unfinished so you are left wondering about them; WHY did Custardoy lurk under the lampost? Was there a secret there?? WHY did the husband, newly married, get into such an intimate situation with his ex?? Many human traits are shown here, many of them uncomfortable, but a compelling story nonetheless. I look forward to reading more by this author.

It is always relaxing to be doing something with the hands and so this colouring book for grown ups is the perfect way to do something whilst "doing nothing". The intricate pictures of flowery things can be your own private art work and carried with you wherever you go and brought out when there is five minutes to spare. A bit like a comfort blanket, it is always there to provide something to occupy yourself with, whether looking at the pictures or colouring them in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspired to decorate!, 13 May 2013

Although I may not make every decoration suggested in this book I can see that there are a lot of ideas which I will take up. Give the postman a brighter day and get your envelopes decorated! I do love fiddling about with paper and using this book for ideas has given me the perfect opportunity to do so with things I have lying around the house. Also very good for helping me to decorate birthday cards which I am going to give people by hand as they are too fiddly to put through the post.

Mark Hearld's Work Book
Mark Hearld's Work Book

5.0 out of 5 stars Lively and spontaneous., 5 Dec 2012

OK, the process of printmaking can't be all that spontaneous but at least the subject matter and finished work looks as though it can be. I saw Mark Hearld's exhibition at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and was inspired to come home and get my paints out as the artwork on show there just made you want to have a go. There is no preciousness about Mark's work, he gets on with it and produces animated colourful pieces depicting animals and birds in the processof going about their daily business. I never did get my own paints out of course, but bought the book instead (at a very good price from Amazon) and can now pore over the pictures all over again. Page sized artwork and close-ups are inspiring and a very useful aide memoir for the exhibition I enjoyed so much.

The Doors Concerto

5.0 out of 5 stars Classical familiarity., 5 Dec 2012

This review is from: The Doors Concerto (Audio CD)
I don't know much about The Doors but like many other people I have heard their music over the air waves throughout the years. Nigel Kennedy takes their melodies and plays them in his special way on the violin. I find this an extremely pleasing cd to listen to as it is both relaxing and invigorating and always refreshing. Good for background music played low, or a "there at the concert" buzz when played loud. I will certainly be playing it for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Away from the ordinary.., 5 Dec 2012

Yes, its expensive for what it is, but it is certainly different and always elicits a response from visitors who are used to the usual dish rack inthe kitchen. Plates stand up in it, cutlery stands up in it, cups drain on it and bowls sit neatly on the corners. The spout hangs over the granite and drains into the sink and at night I tip it up on end to drain dry in the sink. Stylish and useful, I love it!

British Bivalve Seashells A Handbook for Identification
British Bivalve Seashells A Handbook for Identification

5.0 out of 5 stars Honest seller and appreciative buyer., 9 Nov 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was so pleased to be able to buy this book at an affordable price from a seller who wasn't being greedy in what she asked for it. I had been looking for it for some time as I enjoy learning about shells, and the author is a distant relative of mine so it is nice to have his book in the family library. There are other shell books out there but somehow this one, a mainstay of the subject for many years, is small, readable and easy to dip in and out of. It IS a sought after book in pristine first edition, but I wanted it for the book's sake (not it's perceived value) and was able to own it through Amazon and the excellent seller who offered it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shocking but mesmerising, 1 Jan 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Cracks (Hardcover)
I watched the film Cracks at the cinema. Beautifully shot at a girl's school in County Meath, Ireland, the story unfolds of a newcomer who has an enormous effect on the behaviour of the girls and teacher already at the school. I later read the book and was surprised to find that the original story was set in South Africa, where the heat and conditions at the isolated school added to the tensions of the relationships between the characters. We learn more of their characteristics and backgrounds in the book, although the shocking secret kept by the girls is unexpected when revealed. Even after seeing the film and thinking that I knew the story, I was unprepared for the events leading up to the climax, re-lived at a school reunion when the girls (now women) are bound by unspoken secrets. Sheila Kohler's beautifully conceived story is both shocking and mesmerising as the reader is immersed in boarding school life where the introduction of the strong-willed foreign girl to the school changes their lives forever. Read it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Have Faith in Paloma, 12 Dec 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Glamorous looking and with a voice of many parts, Paloma Faith grabs your attention all through this cd. From the raunchy "Stone Cold Sober" to the yearning of "My Legs are Weak", Paloma sings songs of loving and loss, lies and heartache. Her lyrics are life itself, her music varied enough to make every track on this cd stand alone with independent identity. I heard her on the radio, listened to samples on Amazon, and bought the cd. Enjoyed every minute of it!
