4.0 out of 5 stars Well-made product that DOESN'T look like a laptop bag, 8 Aug 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This seems to be a well-made bag, which was delivered rapidly and safely. Equally significantly if DOESN'T look like a laptop bag to the casual glance, making it less likely to attract attention from low-lifers.

2.0 out of 5 stars SOO SLOOW, 4 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Needed a longer lead to use with a USB3 external drive.

What I DID NOT NEED was a cable that runs at less than half the speed of the 1 metre lead shipped with the drive.

I copied a 3.2GB folder of images twice with each cable. The Toshiba original took 1m 24sec (c 38 MB/s) while the Amazon own-brand took 3 minutes (< 18 MB/s).

I have c 0.5 TB of data that I want to synchronise on a regular basis. I bought a USB3 drive to do this at speed, so a half-speed lead is pretty pointless. The only saving grace is that it's so cheap I can just give it Oxfam without losing much. Disappointed with Amazon though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lightweight pod which fits easily in an airline-sized travel case, 12 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well-made product which, thanks to its 4 section structure (instead of the usual 3 stage) collapses from a height suitable for a 6-footer to a tiny rod which easily packs away for travel.

The clasps are positive and seem smooth and sturdy, so I'm not anticipating any early breakdown here.

As a final point I usually use Manfrotto with their RC2 quick release plates on all my gear. There was no problem at all in putting a Manfrotto ball and socket head on the Giotto monopod, so I don't need to mess around changing fittings when a want a more portable support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Normal flash memory function in a compact form., 12 Dec 2012

This is excellent for use with a notepad etc., where a normal, finger length, memory stick juts out and is at risk of being knocked out of the socket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tasting oil and good for high temperature cooking, 12 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Previously I've used olive oil almost exclusively. When making casseroles howver, it's often useful to brown meat before a slow cook to add colour and flavour; doing this with olive oil is expensive and loses the oil's fresh flavour completely.

Rapeseed Oil is great for high temperature initial browning and doesn't seem to burn or add burnt overtones to the food. I shall now use it for high-heat cooking as standard instead of olive oil

The only slight puzzle with Just Oil is that delivery takes weeks instead of the days more usual with online buying; there's no explanation of this but neither is there any misleading - the interval is clearly spelt out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent quality oil at an excellent price, 12 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I like the flavour of Kalamata Olive Oil and have bought it for years; it has a fresh flavour, slightly peppery and is fine for salad dressings and for cooking.
This is my second purchase through Amazon & Agrovim. The price is much less than the same product from specialist oil vendors but consistently tastes exactly the same. Having noted the interval between the two orders, I'm now taking advantage of the additional saving by placing a regular order.

2.0 out of 5 stars DOESN'T TRANSFER DATA FROM OTHER NOKIA PHONES, 31 May 2012
With the exception of Contacts, Nokia have failed to invest in data transfer capabilities from previous (non-Windows7) phones.
.
If you use your phone's Calendar as a mobile diary, then you're looking at forking out for MS Outlook for both your PC and your Lumia or you can forget data transfer(according to advice from [...]). Fancy an evening or two re-entering all your appointments?
.
If you keep Messages as an archive or a record of interactions then there's a big problem. Not only does there appear to be no transfer capability for your previous Messages BUT - the Lumia 800 (according to the product page on [...]) doesn't back up text messages at all!
.
There might be a mechanism to transfer images; I haven't found one yet, but I haven't found a statement saying that it's impossible either.
.
My previous Nokia talked to Nokia PC Suite which synchronised and/or backed up whatever I wanted it to. The Lumia 800 doesn't talk to PC Suite. The Lumia 800 talks to Zune. Zune appears to back up the stuff it tries to sell you,and not much else.
.
Whether by design or by accident the Lumia 800 seems suited to an ephemeral world where nothing lasts, nothing has value beyond the moment. Against a trend of mobile devices seemingly aimed at replacing desktop PCs for professionals on the move, Nokia seem to have launched a device that "lives" for the moment with memory and continuity provided elsewhere. Be very sure your life- and work-style can accomodate that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for shots where you can spend time setting up, 14 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Excellent pan & tilt head made to the consistently high standard I've always found with Mannfrotto products.

I like the fact that the screw-in handles are all different lengths, so that, if you wish, you can pick the right axis to adjust without taking your eye from the view finder. I found the movement to be completely smooth with no catching or jerking as others have reported

Some reviewers have been surprised that a pan & tilt head isn't as rapid in response as a ball head; this is true, it isn't as flexible - because it is designed to support a more thoughtful set up. If you want, say, to capture moving boats with a long lens then a ball head would be more flexible. If you want to capture a landscape with level horizons and perhaps pan to build a panaorama from a succesion of images, then this is the ideal tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value product which does its job well with only one slight niggle, 5 May 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product arrived promptly and was rapidly in place on my DSLR proving it could do the job I bought it for.

The timing mechanism is extremely flexible allowing setting of number of exposures, interval between same, actual exposure time (if you don't or can't leave this to the camera); you can even specify an interval before operations begin so, for example, you can set this up before going to bed to capture dawn visitors to your bird table!

The only niggle I have is the absence of an Off switch; the only way deactivate the unit is to take its batteries out. It may be that standby drain on batteries is so low as to be negligible, but I feel uncomfortable with this.

One piece of advice as well, that is not the fault of the timer unit:- when setting an interval between exposures it is necessary, as the instructions advise, to allow enough time for an autofocus lens to do exactly that. You should also make allowances for the amount of time your camera takes to process your image and write it to the memory card. If you are taking long exposures the processing time can be quite significant, so try this manually to check the interval required before setting up the automatic run.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Astounding Revelation, 23 May 2011
I borrowed one of these units on holiday last week (Thank you National Trust for Scotland!). I was astonished at the amount of activity that our narrow sense spectrum completely misses.
This was truly a revelation; these were not timid little squeaks but assertive questing (in human terms, perhaps not "...erm....hello?", rather "RIGHT WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS EVENING?")and all this with nothing audible or visible to my native senses.
The unit has two sources of illumination, a low intensity LED showing the current setting of the frequency dial and a high intensity click-on, click-off LED at the top. The latter is useful for, say, checking a reference chart to identify which bat species might be making the sound you've just heard; I doubt that you'd want much more as it would ruin your "night vision" for several minutes. Carry a pocket torch, however, to find your way again once you've finished listening as it is likely to be full dark by then.
