4.0 out of 5 stars A genuinely tense horror movie., 30 April 2009
Based (copied!) from the Spanish film [REC*], Quarantine follows a news reporter who is filming a documentary with local fire-fighters. After being called to an apartment block, the tenants, the fire crew and the news reporter, are locked in to face to face the apparent disease which has broken out in the building.

What follows is a terrifying movie full of jumps and genuine tension. The tension builds as the film progresses and is at times very unsettling. The performances from all involved are very good. They add to a feeling of fear and not understanding exactly what is going on and why they are not able to leave the apartment.

The only downside is that if you have seen the Spanish version then there is nothing new here. It is virtually shot for shot the same. If you have not seen either then one is no better than the other. The only thing they do have in common is that they are both very well made and are well above average when compared to other recent "horror" movies.

2.0 out of 5 stars Full of clichés and very boring., 20 April 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This story begins well but, unfortunately, only gets worse from then on. What starts as an interesting spy thriller for "young adults", turns into something which seems aimed at children much younger at some points, and adults at others, but fails to appeal to either. The characters become tiresome and repetitive and there is no development whatsoever. The story is also one which has been heard many times before. This is fine if there is a small bit which adds some originality but there is none, its just one cliché after another. The author was seemingly aiming for something along the lines of the Alex Rider novels but falls well short. Overall, very disappointing and I won't be reading any more from Alec Sillifant.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting at times, but lacks any real depth., 26 Mar 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
After reading all of the rave reviews I was really looking forward to this. Sadly, for me, it didn't live up to the hype. Some of stories are actually very interesting but there is no depth to them whatsoever. They are so short they don't give any context and feel like a series of bullet points rather than anything with any substance. The structure is also strange and it's difficult to establish any sort of time line. There is no doubt that the stories from inside a hospitals ER are fascinating. For me though, this book merely skimmed the surface and I finished it feeling I have only read half a story.

1.0 out of 5 stars So pointless, it must be some kind of April fool joke., 26 Feb 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Unlike some reviewers, I have had no problems with the installation. However, I am in total agreement with most on here that the product is useless. The interface is dreadful and couldn't be any less user friendly. The icons are not instantly recognisable, the format looks strange and I still haven't figured out how to select what type of device I want to transfer my data to. There isn't a list which can be easily identified and the instructions enclosed are useless. I was "lucky" enough to get this for free. Unfortunately it's not even worth that much. Do yourself a favour and google "file transfer" and you will find any number of free programs that do exactly the same thing but actually work!!

I think the content of this game has been discussed at length in other reviews so I won't go over old ground. What I can concur with is that it is great fun. It really is suitable for all ages. You can play it with the kids before they go off to bed. Then its time to crack open the beers, uncork the wine and hey presto, instant adult fun. It's easy to understand and will provide hours of fun. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings back some very happy memories., 20 Feb 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
My tapes have been sat in the attic for some time now. Most I have no real desire to listen to again but, there a few hidden gems up there. This program is great at getting them digitised and bringing back some very happy memories. Like most computer programs it takes a while to get used to but once you have figured everything out its pretty easy to use. Claims on the box that it will eliminate his and crackle are a bit overstated because it picks everything up from the cassette. There are ways to reduce it but ultimately you can't polish a turd too much. If the original recording was rubbish then this program makes it marginally better at best. Overall though it's fantastic at digitising your old music collection and well worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for the under 8's., 20 Feb 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Being 32 I was a bit unsure whether I would like this or not. I love vampires, werewolves and Dracula stories and this was actually very entertaining. Mt son is too young to appreciate it yet but I look forward to reading it with him. The story is nothing very original but then it's important to remember it's aimed at very young kids rather than adults. I would imagine that reading this as a young boy would be great fun and I highly recommend it.

Surprisingly this actually works very well. I was a bit dubious when it says on the box that after you have built something "just soak in water and use again". Amazingly it does just this, and you are ready to create another masterpiece! Overall this is a great toy to use with the kids. Once the cement sets it is solid enough to keep. The only downside is that once you run out of "cement" I'm not sure where to buy some more. That said, if you finally decide on something you want to keep then there will be no need for more anyway.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mostly easy to use but will try your patience at times., 13 Feb 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This program is easy to use in places but then becomes increasingly complicated. For example, putting files you want to convert into a DVD is easy. Re-arranging them in the order you want, isn't. The manual is useless and doesn't add much more than basic tasks. There is another manual you can use when the program is running but it's so long winded that you need hours to be able to digest it all. With a bit of trial and error I eventually got it to work and the results are great. Stick with it and you will be fine. Overall this is one of the more user friendly DVD making programs and with a little patience it wont be long until you can make professional looking DVDs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fot teenagers., 16 Jan 2009
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Being 32, the story is something that has been done many times before. Howver, I raced through this and was gripped from start to finish. I can imagine reading this as a 14 year old would have been even better. Characters are well written and believeable, and you really feel like you are part of the adventure. I will definitely getting the next books in the series from Simon Holt.
