5.0 out of 5 stars Good WW2 stories and pictures of Beaufighters and their crews, 26 April 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have found this book both entertaining and informative. I am currently painting a picture of a Beaufighter leaving RAF Defford early in WW2, to trial radar developed by TRE Malvern. The book is a very good source of visual information and the accounts of crews help to give some idea of the Beau's capabilities and quirks, and has helped in my research for the painting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, practical advice from an accomplished aviation artist, 14 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good instruction books on aviation art are thin on the ground so this one is a welcome addition. I have found it informative and helpful in many ways. The section on perspective and projective geometry is most useful in getting a realistic aircraft from blueprint drawings.I think the book benefits from being written by a practicing aviation artist with a strong background of engineering in the aviation industry. There are some sections on general art techniques that established artists might feel unnecessary but the book has to appeal to a wide market and could well encourage those who would like to paint aircraft for the first time. Andrew Whyte's own paintings are a tribute to his skill and knowledge. I'm sure my own work will be improved by reading this book

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact but informative, 23 July 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is only a small book, but it carries a lot of useful information about church architectural features. I have found it most helpful in my current activity of visting and painting portraits of some of the old churches of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. It is easy to slip into a pocket or bag for easy reference when in the field.

The Ode Less Travelled: Unlocking the Poet Within

5.0 out of 5 stars The Classical How to Write Poetry Book, 16 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Stephen Fry has writen a comprehensive book on the classical forms of poetry, which is informative and amusing. His analysis of the various forms is exhaustive and, at times, exhausting. Both budding poets and those who wish to undertstand how poems are constructed will find instruction here.
If you can stay the course, and I am trying hard to do so,you will have a sound basis on which to write and/or read the very wide, diverse and range of poetry on offer today.
