Always a fan of Mr Petty in his numerous guises, both for the quality of the music and because he's never been afraid to write a lyric that says something that needs to be said without fear or favour. This new album is no exception and also has perhaps a little more of a hard edge to the sound, a harking back maybe but this is no old fashioned album, nor a retreat to the past.

For lovers of real music, played with balls by real musicians this is a treat and long may TP continue.

Petty brilliant as always, in particular the scathing title track. Looking forward to the new album at the end of the month (July 2014).

Not quite up there with the previous few Yes albums, but this is nevertheless a great piece of Prog history and still as enjoyable today as when released almost 40 years ago.

In what I hope grows into the excellent series it promises to be. Strong characters, an interesting storyline with what looks to be an equally interesting back story.
4 stars at this stage both because it's early days and in part because of some less than stellar editing in the Kindle version.

Yes, of course there shades of other influences here (Floyd, Porcupine Tree, et al), but everyone is shaped by their own listening history and these guys have put their influences together into a new sound that is becoming their own.
I'm a big fan of classic Prog (I was there after all) but this is Great New Prog and I'm delighted to be able to hear and support it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why aren't there more stars available, 6 Oct 2011

As a big fan of Stone the Crows, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and Chicken Shack, et al this is a real find as far as I'm concerned.
Beth Hart has one of the greatest voices I've heard in long, long time; add to that Joe Bonamassa who can channel 60's/70's British Blues Rock as though he'd been there and you have what has got to be the best album of 2011 so far.
If only there were more than 5 stars available!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite up to the mark?, 3 Oct 2011
Not quite the standard that I'm used to from JCG and poorly edited in places (although that may just be the Kindle edition that I read).
The cast set out before us are not the easiest set of characters to know & love; even our erstwhile 'heroes' are badly flawed and the politics are dark in the extreme. It's not that I was expecting an easy ride, wrong author entirely for that, but a way in would have been nice.
Perhaps, after earlier work, I'm just expecting too much and I'll certainly read the next book in the series, but over all not quite 5 stars.
