3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly misleading cover, 3 Jun. 2013
The cover shown here on the VHS is slightly misleading-one would assume they were buying the 1950's originals-not so-they are the (1969-70) remakes in colour with Vera Mc kechnie, whereas the 50's originals were storytold by Maria Bird.
However still good for those who want to see a bit of nostalgia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Cruel: Patti Sings Rock N' Roll!, 14 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
As I type-I received this 'Golden' CD today! It is rockingly good! The original (Stereo) Mercury Lp's of this album from '62 are very collectable-and desirable, here you have them all in true re-mastered stereo once again.
Included here are most of the cream of the Nashville musician's, the one's who appeared on Decca for Kitty Wells, Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn and Miss Patti here herself!
Rousing and pleasing is 'Don't Be Cruel', of course a smash for Elvis-but Ms Patti does a sterling job here with baritone sax and great chorus, As a bonus, many other trax are included here as an additional bonus for this superb CD!
Recommended listening.

I agree with one of the reviewer's here: what is there to complain about? I was delighted with my purchases-buying the Lp's three at a time with a considerable saving(s).
We get that lovely label on the vinyl itself: the same Parlophone logo in black/yellow-super! - the STEREO logo as well, ok, so were not going to get a flip-back cardboard cover, being realistic-would that be expected after well over 40 years?!? the opportunity to have these vinyl formats is heaven to me and a very happy customer I am!

I love this set, supreme recordings, with the cream of Nashville musicians.
Beautifully recorded full price Decca albums are all here- a spendid buy! For example: hear Floyd Cramer in his inimatable 'slip-note' piano style on Burl's 'Two Car Garage' sheer listening pleasure!
Thouroghly recommended- (If you can find one..).

Deviant: True Story of Ed Gein, the Original Psycho
Deviant: True Story of Ed Gein, the Original Psycho

5.0 out of 5 stars Grave Robber from the 1950's, 26 Dec. 2011
Harold Schecter's book 'Deviant' is extremely well written-yes, there really did exist in the heartland of America a 'Bogeyman' not in your worst nightmare would've any dreamed such a Man could exist.

Edward Gein would, in the dead of night disinter corpses from Plainfield cemetery in Wisconsin. Later, he would go on to murder, mutilate and dismember two local middle aged businesswomen.. It was rumoured Ed had a chum called Gus who helped him extricate freshly buried coffins and empty the occupant's..

So much has been written about this horrible case, that it's important to get a few facts straight: There was NO refridgerator stacked with human remains, for this Mausoleum of a house had neither electricity or running water. Ed's ghoulish deed's on the corpses of plump middle aged women would take place under the solitary gloom of an oil lamp. Dismembered and numerous body part's were all found-where unspeakable deeds took place- in a localised room of the house
Local children (and) adult's remember not being spooked by mild mannered Ed-but the house...

One Man remembered as a child how he'd save up all his strength and 'run like hell' until he was well clear of Ed's house,so terrified were the locals of the standalone farmhouse, with only the sombre glow of an oil lamp to illuminate the gloom of the charnel house."It wasn't Eddie I feared-it was the house"

Whether or not his God fearing formidable and religous fanatic of a Mother was the reason for his psychosis, we will never know.

A highly recommended book which tells the truth of nefarious deeds accomplished by a 'mild mannered, middle aged bachelor'in November 1957.

Simply beautiful and lush sounds at last transferred onto disc. Ray does a sterling job on these near (50) year old albums. Tear stained ballads with full string orchestra and for supreme listening pleasure, we have the lovely full choral backing to most. Recorded and released in full (stereo), listen while you relax and take in the sensational sounds of genius Ray, emotional and heartbreaking outpouring of vocal soul. Five stars from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Night Call" Sinister Engrossing T.Z. episode!, 1 Aug. 2011
If you are a T.Z. completist then you MUST get this set for the episode "Night Call" alone! Beautifully filmed and first aired in February 1964.

A superior episode masterfully directed by Jacques Tournier ('Cat People')in which actress Gladys Cooper has the lead role as a lonely, cranky, embittered spinster who receives mysterious and frightening telephone calls in the middle of the night!.

It is then that the telephone itself becomes an instrument of terror for Miss Keene.
The suspense and all pervading uneasiness in this episode does not let up until it's heartbreaking conclusion..

Miss Finch: (Telephonist) "About those calls you say youv'e been receiving Miss Keen.." Miss Keene: "SAY Iv'e been?..

A MUST see!.

A superb CD which contains tracks that are supremely scarce to locate in their original recorded form (45's)! 'Today Has Been Cancelled' and 'Forget About The Bad Things' being of the utmost scarcity.
Very pleasurable disc and very well put together!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful Account Of Rosemary West, 16 July 2011
You will have to clear your mind of any pre-conceived opinions of Rosemary West UNTIL you read this riveting book on arguably, the UK's most heinous female murderess.

Jane Carter Woodrow's book does not in any way sensationalise the story of Rose.
However, it does go into factual account, telling of her extremely disturbing parental upbringing. It did also for her siblings, but, one her sister's went on to become a respectable senior nurse.

Rose'upbringing was one of habitual beatings, incest and all pervading sense of uneasiness, until she fled finally, only to meet another monster (Fred West) who unfortunately had an almost carbon copy of the malignant and doom ridden early life of Rosemary.

Many young girls lost their innocence and life to this murdering pair, and what is contained in this book is very disturbing-especially when you realise that this woman was an equal participant in incest, torture, violence and sexual deviance culminating in death for those who entered the portals of Cromwell Street.

What Rose did to her step daughter was deeply disturbing and horrifying,it is unprintable in a review like this.

In the UK we are only too painfully aware of another pair of sexual sadists-in the past, which I won't go into here, but Fred and Rose easily surpassed those two in their sheer and calculating plans to satisfy their perverted and degenerate lust.

Roses' eruptions or rages resulted in the death's of two her own offspring, a fact proved by her partner Fred being in prison at the time one of the child's murder..

Certainly strong reading: 'Deadlier than the Male' springs to mind.

To summarise an excellently written book that tells it like it was- when the case broke in the early 90's.
