5.0 out of 5 stars Look out for the driving lesson., 21 Aug 2014

This review is from: The Mammy (Kindle Edition)
Don't come to this book thinking it will be like his TV show, with daft characters and raucous smutty humour, mind you there is a bit of that, come to think of it. This is about a childhood and a nostalgic look back on all that mothers have done to keep families together and helping their children grow up with some principles and a set of decent morals even in the most trying of circumstances.
It is affectionate, amusing and well told.
However, back to the raucous humour, I hate to have to relate (as it sounds a bit off) but I absolutely howled with laughter when he recounted how his mother's best friend died. Sorry.
Good yarn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coverage from a little extender., 21 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
If you're looking for a wi-fi extender thats easy to set up and doesn't reduce your bandwidth, this is it. We found set up to be easy, just be sure to check which Ghz connection you're going with and your router's security settings. We have quite a few dead spots in our house but this extender got around that problem and we have a great signal in even the farthest reaches of our home. Its also worth noting that bandwidth hasn't decreased much at all, so using it for gaming or streaming movies is do-able. Overall I can't really fault this little device. It will fit in neatly anywhere in your home. The box has the extender, an ethernet cable and the mains plug.

GOODOGS TREAT Dogs Snack for Dogs, Small
GOODOGS TREAT Dogs Snack for Dogs, Small

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty tidbit, handy bribe., 20 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Very small and seemingly tasty snacks (well Bonnie happily gobbled them down). Handy to carry a few around, as a training incentive or just a wee treat for your wee dog.
It boasts top quality ingredients and an innovative shape that maintains aroma and freshness. They recommend 10 snacks for every ten kg weight of dog.

An Evil Eye (Yashim 4)
An Evil Eye (Yashim 4)
by Jason Goodwin
Edition: Paperback
Price: 5.13

5.0 out of 5 stars A Yashim fan, 20 Aug 2014
This review is from: An Evil Eye (Yashim 4) (Paperback)
I have enjoyed all Jason Goodwin's book featuring the great Turkish 'detective' Yashim. He is a very intriguing and interesting character as are his friends and acquaintances. I like the bits where he cooks his special meals, Goodwin takes you through it all so you basically have the recipe. You can almost taste the food.
A body is found down a well at a monastery. But, as with all Yashim's stories there are many threads to wind up and some of an entirely different hue. The goings on at the palace also provides a sinister backdrop. With defections, spies, and crimes from years back rearing their heads this story will keep involved. Very enjoyable.

The Germanicus Mosaic (A Libertus Mystery of Roman Britain)
The Germanicus Mosaic (A Libertus Mystery of Roman Britain)
by Rosemary Rowe
Edition: Paperback

3.0 out of 5 stars A slow start for Germanicus., 20 Aug 2014
I have read a few of Davis' Falco books. He a a sort of Philip Marlowe wise-cracking Roman Detective. This is a more thoughtful and reluctant detective, only taking on the case as he cannot refuse his patron. And it is set in ancient Britain not Rome.
I found it a bit slow paced. It was informative about life, especially for slaves, at the time of our Roman occupation, which sounded violent and pretty awful.
It picked up at the end where Germanicus, like the pavement maker he is, is slowly piecing things together to get the whole picture. My husband read it after me, we both agree, it is a bit slow in pace and therefore does not grip you.

So handy in the kitchen. These are a must. My old pair were not suitable for the dishwasher, these are, so a good replacement. The size is right for me too, some are quite big but these are neat. Just right.

This is a nice green tea which has puffed rice included in the bag. This gives a lovely popcorn-like smell to the tea and being tea pigs is lovely to drink. Makes a nice gift for your adventurous tea-drinking friends.

WARING Waring 4 in 1 Multi Grill,
WARING Waring 4 in 1 Multi Grill,
Price: 74.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes nice panscones, 7 Aug 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The ability to be used in three positions (closed, open and flat) and the fact that you can turn it from ribbed plates to plain ones make this grill a better choice for those wanting to do more than toasted sandwiches and paninis.
It has been used on its highest setting and open flat to do sausages and bacon together, for three people and it copes well.
I would not say it was quicker than using a grill for this and it does not crisp up the bacon fat the way a grill can.
Have also used the plain side, pre-heated and a medium setting for panscones and you could do things like griddle scones too.
It is very easy to wipe clean and I am pleased it wasn't a massive piece of kit, it sits happily on top of the fridge.
I think it would cope with most things but loses a star for not being quite as quick as I thought it would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too much ironing too little time, 29 July 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I often do an awful lot of ironing, which is never a good thing but comes with the job. I do not think they can invent something that will make ironing a joy but this makes it a bit easier.
Other reviewers have given all the necessary dimensions and general ins and outs so I would not like to re-state things but I probably will. So briefly, it is lighter and smaller than I expected. You pour water in the front of the large tank (there is a maximum level) and switch it on at the back. Two minutes later it is ready to go.
The iron itself feels small and light and it is certainly a powerful steam jet that instantly cuts through the creases. There is a small button on the underside of the handle that you keep depressed for the steam. You can set the temperature dial to deal with delicates like silk, in which case the steam will not work.
After a month or more it will beep to let you know you need to do the Calc-Clean process. This keeps your iron running smoothly. It wont let you skip this procedure but it sounds quite straightforward.
I am pleased with this.

Miele S6210 2000 Watt Power Bagged Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner, Sprint Blue

3.0 out of 5 stars Vacuuming can be quite tiring, 27 July 2014

This certainly has a lot of suction but one thing it cannot handle is dog hair. Having a labrador, there is always some dog hair about but the Miele prefers to roll it about on the carpet but not necessarily suck it up. I suppose I should have gone for one that actively mentioned being good at picking up dog hair.
Having previously had an upright I find that, though the motor part is on castors and not that heavy, dragging this and a long hose around is very wearing. Also the really good suction does not make for something that slips easily over the carpet. It obviously takes up more storage space due to to the hose and suction attachment, than an upright would.
There is a bag to change and two different filtration things (you are recommended to change fairly frequently). The bag is covered so you don't have to deal with too much dust and the new one slips in quite easily.
You do not see on the picture that there is a large plastic holding that fits where the hose meets the metal of the handle. This holds the two attachments and looks large though is not exactly in the way. Some have said the attachments can still easily fall from here if you knock it against some door or furniture. I cannot seem to remove it now it is on.
As stated suction is very good and my car looked amazingly clean when I used it on the flooring and upholstery recently.
However, on the whole, I miss my good upright.
