3.0 out of 5 stars come on guys, it's not THAT bad..., 3 July 2014
ok, a lot of negative reviews on this, so much so that i havent played it until july 2014... I missed out, as have found out it's not THAT bad at all. in fact its the only game ive made time for, in a LONG time.

It is still C&C, but with some major changes such as there no real base building required or any resource management. those things were (unfortunately for c&c 4), the parts most people loved about the originals.

But its still c&c... Its quite short (youll finish both campaigns in a few days), the acting is often awkward (apart from kane who is superb as usual) with a plot that answers no questions. the small armies you get were for me the biggest downfall... around 5 or 6 units maximum unit cap at times = ridiculous.

Still good for a c&C fix before generals 2 comes out, it definately hasnt "ruined the series" as i thought it would. its challenging at times which is great. some of the new units look great and missions provide some good lengthy battles and strategies. you get your promoted units quickly, and is overall its very action packed.

in short - try it. you might be surprised.

1.0 out of 5 stars Savages out for a bloodbath?, 24 Mar. 2014
I dont know whats more mystifying... all the 5 star reviews of these films or the fact Cousteau and his crew are regarded as fantastic voyageurs of the sea...

Me and my mrs could literally only stand about half an hour of the first film... definitely not for the kids!!

In that first half hour we saw...
Costeau and his crew smash along the sea bed crushing the corals beneath their feet, chopping up marine life with their handheld propellers and axes. They see a sea turtle and wrestle/ride it, and report how it needs air to breath as it struggles to the surface, then as a joke, say "how tired the turtle is" afterwards.

Next they say how dynamite fishing is illegal, then proceed to pile up hundreds of fish they've killed or injured... with dynamite???

When they came across a large group of whales i was fearful of what they would do... the skipper "has never been so close to whales before" so decides to "have a go"... at harpooning it of course.
Next, a whale gets rammed. Next, the baby whale gets rammed, and failing to turn off the engines, badly lacerated. The ocean turns red, which attracts 100's of sharks, that feed on the corpse. In an attempt to, I quote; "avenge" the baby whale (that THEY killed?), they drag shark, after shark, after shark, onto the boat with spears through their faces...

This is the point me and the mrs had to turn it off... and i'm not any kind of marine activist, or even squeamish!
I love watching these beautiful sea creatures, and i know this was in the 60's but that doesn't justify the killing here.

unbelievable 5 star reviews. i have no intention of finding out what's on the other 4 hours of footage, but watch Cousteau and his boys at your own peril!

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear oh dear.... What is this mess?, 25 May 2013
This review is from: Random Access Memories (Audio CD)
What a truly big mess of an album... for the two robots that ruled my teenage years, rocked my early/mid twenties, absolutely blew me away with Alive and also the phenominal Tron soundtrack, i could not believe my ears.

There's not a single track on RAM I want to hear again... not even one. I'd love to advise you if this album is good for you, but I don't know WHAT this album is supposed to be about... Funky, jazz electro-pop rock perhaps?
Some tracks have long interview recordings, most include boring drab/dreary effects and cheesy pop vocals dominate the rest. The album in general has a structure so messy I fail to see how anyone, (let alone a daft punk fan) can connect to it. Other than the pop tune "get lucky" there's no life & soul like prev albums, but if you really love "get lucky", try it.

I knew Daft Punk would be moving away from the dance electro style, and was looking forward to seeing what their ingenious minds came up with.
I'm NOT just hating because its not like discovery/homework...
>I hate sound track albums, yet bought Tron.
>I hate "remixed" albums, yet Alive is in my among my top10 all time albums.
>I generally don't like commercial electro pop music but have lost my voice several times singing "one more time" and "digital love" after drinks!

Whatever this is, I don't like it. I don't think anyone will be listening to these tunes after the hype has died. I only hope Daft Punk stray away from the same commercial route that seals the fate of many great dance artists and DJ's, and gain pleasure instead from their old, or even a different style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfiest thing iv'e ever worn, 7 Nov. 2012
My feet have never had something so comfy on them. Wore them around Thailand and Cambodia, not really trekking but close! Never wanted to bother wearing anything else id taken.

paid £20 for mine, might seem a lot for a flip flop but when you think youll be wearing them every day due to how comfy they are, theyre worth every penny,

Do get slippery when wet or very sweaty, thats the only downside.

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Doom 3 (PC) (Video Game)
just came back to this little gem after 6 years... and it STILL looks better than pretty much any console shooter, it must have been years ahead of its time.

great atmosphere and visuals, if you missed this in 2005, get it now... im sure your pc will be able to play it on ultra by now? you may need to tweak the doom.cfg file to include these things to run the game at 1080p in 16:9 widescreen
r_mode "-1"
r_customHeight "1080"

4.0 out of 5 stars Dont listen to bad reviews, the best since HOMAM 3, 2 Nov. 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Cant see why people are saying its nothing like HOMAM... it feels just like 3?

I read the reviews and decided what the hell i'll take the risk... glad I did, its not perfect but still the best PC game i've played all year. Already had many 5am nights which i know fans of the HOMAM series are familiar with!

Cant see why people are saying its been dumbed down either... its harder and more complex than any of the homams ive played. Units have loads of special attributes and theres loads of spells n weird stats.
Only thing i've really missed from previous games though is that the town view just shows a little windowed video of the town, which doesn't show the buildings grow as they upgrade.

+awesome turn based strategy you dont get anywhere else, HOMAM is back!
+PC only title so not some nasty console port
+soundtrack is simply beautiful (i swear some songs are homam 3 remakes?)
+generally nice looking game
+MASSIVE game, took me 12 hours to do one small campaign map

-confusing story with some odd voice acting
-user interface can be a bit annoying, such as cant see when friendly fire with archers will happen (eg)
-terrible cinematic scenes & a few low budget graphics and animations
-a few glitches even after spending a few hours patching (which seems to be the norm with all pc games now)#
-terrible ubisoft DRM & software, keeps screwing everything up, almost EVERY time the game starts and ends

If it wasnt for ubisofts terrible DRM & loader, and the towns were visually updated, Id prob's still rate this 5stars. If youre a fan just buy it.
