4.0 out of 5 stars The DVD that dripped love!, 22 July 2013

This is a double-disc set that is made with love and enthusiasm. If you want lots of behind-the-scenes clips and sequences from the films to illustrate the copious interviews, then this won`t be for you. It`s a very low-budget documentary that uses public domain theatrical trailers of vintage quality, and the sound and picture quality of the interviews probably would not be considered of broadcast standard...but we get to hear the stories and anecdotes of those both in-front of and behind the camera that I have not heard before. Producer/director (and presenter!) Derek Pykett knows his subject well and gets the most out of everyone he interviews, and virtually every aspect of the films is touched in some way.

The extras are gold themselves - two interviews with the wonderful Peter Cushing - and it is clear that nobody has anything but the utmost love, respect and enthusiasm for him. Which is echoed in Derek Pykett`s documentary on the little brother of Hammer, Amicus Films.

Great fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars A forgotten classic, 22 July 2013

This review is from: Star Cops (Paperback)
Star Cops was a television series that was both short-lived and seen by only a few million in 1987. Over time, though, it has become regarded as an incredibly brave and dynamic attempt at something very different. Indeed not long ago it was considered one of the best genre series of it`s kind by SFX magazine.

The original broadcast consisted of scripts from its creator Chris Boucher (Doctor Who, Blake`s 7 and Shoestring) as well as John Collee and Philip Martin. Here then are the original scripts and, more importantly, ideas and visions of how its creator had intended Star Cops to be in novel form. It is often brutal, hard and strays from the more sanitised BBC series, but it still has power and imagination and wit and realism and just screams-out for this incredible set-up to be realised as it`s originally intended audio drama.

This is a must-have, and not only for the Star Cop fans. Huge congratulations to What Noise Productions for getting this published for the first time in this format. Hopefully the series will be re-released on DVD for all of us to enjoy it again.

Peter Cushing: Past Forgetting
Peter Cushing: Past Forgetting
by Peter Cushing

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Gentle Man, 7 Dec. 2010
Audio autobiographies are an incredible journey into the life of the narrator, and a glorious momento of that persons experiences. But when it comes to someone who is, sadly, no longer with us it feels that much more special. And this is the case with Peter Cushing`s Past Forgetting. It is at times heartbreaking and uplifting, a story of the rise to international stardom and the loss of his wife, of life-long friendships and iconic movies. All delivered with beautifully measured charm and intelligence, and with that most distinct of voices.

The product is classily produced with a selection of photographs and an introduction from Mark Gatiss for the booklet. The mini-documentary that ends the reading is, again, a testament to the love, affection, appreciation and respect for Cushing as a man and an actor.

To me he will always be an inspiration, a memory of happy times and a true legend. Long may his memory never be forgotten.

Overall: Wonderful!

Thank you Mr. Cushing.
