5.0 out of 5 stars Unknown Fortresses, 23 Sep 2005
The Vauban Fortresses of North America are probably overlooked in Europe and largely ignore in North America. They had a considerable effect on North AMerica and its culture. This book is the ideal introduction to them and a must for the tourist and fortification buff. They are described by one of Canada's noted military historians who shows his considerable skills in a rivettting account.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your Introduction to American sailing frigates, 23 Sep 2005
This is one of the best Anatomy of the Ship books. It gives details on American sailing frigate's which more detailed books overlook. It is an excellent introduction to the United Staes Navy of the War of 1812. For British readers it is a timely reminder that HMS Shannon was not the only successful Royal Navy Frigate of the War of 1812. USS Essex ended her life in Royal Navy service.

4.0 out of 5 stars a good basic buy, 23 Sep 2005
This review is from: The Centurion Tank (Hardcover)
There are a number of books available on the Centurion. This book will answer most of your questions and includes good drawings. The only weakness is the bibliography. A list of manuals would be a great help. In the engine section the omission of the 50 hp tax is surprising.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent geneological resource, 23 Mar 2002
This book is a must for anyone researching their family connections with Scotland and the '45 rebellion. It is a reconstruction of the muster roll of the Bonnie Prince Charlie's army. There are gaps because of the sources used. I am sure that more McLarens were in the Appin regiment. The only major failing is the further reading list which excludes some of the more recent accounts. The use of the term Ecossais Royale is bizarre. Rene Chatrand, an expert, uses Royale Ecossais, which is the construction used for all French royal regiments.

4.0 out of 5 stars an excellent account of this aircraft and its operations, 22 Sep 2001
This book is a gem. It sheds light on major events in the war in the Pacfic. It gives a fasctinating insight into that major disaster, the sinking of the Princes Of wales and the Repulse. Further the insights into Japanese aircraft development are stunning. Information on Japanese aircraft is hard to come by. This book is a must for anyone interested in the Pacfic Naval-Air War.
