A phenomenally well researched gem of two books, 17 Aug 2002
I bought this volume initially to get some ideas on military modelling projects. I expected standard fare This along with its companion volume on Infantry MAA 235 represent the truly unique Osprey Ment at arms. With the precision of a High Court Judge the author blows away all the myths about Gustavus Adolphus and his supposed invention of uniforms, tactics and the lightened musket for example. I would recommend this book as a superb, readable and well illustrated example of how carefully reasoned academic research can turn 2 centuries of assumptions on their head. Recommended to historians and Academics.....Oh and by the way to Military History Enthusiasts..its a pretty mean sourcebook and military text as well!
