Impressive, original and highly readable, 31 May 2013
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The voice of the central character is intriguing and convincing throughout and his central 'oddness' compels you to read on. The story of a confused young man setting out on a journey into the countryside is informed by his love of birds which is described with a sensitivity akin to Mark Cocker's 'Crow Country' and the difficult combination of nature writing and fiction worked well. I would certainly recommend it - you may find yourself looking at the birds in your garden in a new light!
