And their music still stands up superbly after 30 years. 34 tracks for a fiver, do the maths!! Double CD means twice as much to fill, but there's no fillers here. U'll probably have some, maybe even most of these tracks, but only a true anorak would have them all. The 12" mixes are worth the cost alone. Sure I had most of these in a previous lifetime, on vinyl. Sadly no longer, or in perfect condition, to earn fortunes on Amazon/E-bay etc! Just to prove his position at the vanguard of ALL music, we even have a couple of session tracks from John Peel's show. Maybe he was a godfather to bands you wouldn't expect?

So who were this gruesome twosome?? Front and centre, with the mic, singer, Neil Arthur. Frow Darwen, Lancs, where my auntie lives. He of the vastness of hair, that he could almost be Pete Burns, before he went all funny!! Scrabbling around at the back, with the synths, and putting the musical side together, Stephen Luscombe. Both looked pale enough to have been clubbing in Ibiza for 6mths solid, as though they could do with a square meal/sunbed! In combination a strange mixture that worked. More fun than the Pet Shops. More tongue in cheek, rather than tongue down each other's throats, like Erasure.

1st album "Happy Families" criminally, only reached no 30 in the charts. No justice!! One of my favourite albums ever, & a stunning debut. 9 out of the 10 tracks appear here, including Living on the Ceiling, their biggest hit, which reached no 7. They were the 1st commercially successful band to adopt Asian sounds/rhythm & drums into their music. Stephen delved further into this, in 1989 with a band called West India Company. Another record to have slipped thru my fingers!

2nd album "Mange Tout" peaked at no 8. Good going!! My fave ever tracks are 1 and 2. "Don't Tell Me"
& "Game Above My Head" rated in the same order. U may also remember their deadpan cover of Abba fave "The Day Before You Came"??

Next year was "Believe You Me" which only limped up to no 54, despite having cracking singles like "What's Your Problem" & "Lose Your Love". They then fell out of the picture altogether, for quarter of a century!! Welcome back with "Blanc Burn". Only no 163, but still good to have you in the picture again.

Pictures and artwork were big in their history. The covers were like big bright endorsements of 50's all-American wholesome life. The only slight quibble I have with this collection, is about the packaging. The sleeve notes are even more banal than this! I would've loved to see the lyrics for those tracks I'm not so familiar with. Also, as their covers were miniature works of art, surely they deserve a page each, rather than being shrunk into 1.

Buy and enjoy!! Your favourites will differ from mine, but there is still time to reminisce about when the world, and yourself, were that little bit younger, more naieve and better. Quality at a bargain price. Win-win in my book, and there's tantalisingly 1 new track "Making Aeroplanes". HAVE FUN

This is the best possible combination of diff types of music that benefit from being stretched in format to 12". Sometimes size does matter!! Delighted to get delivered in great nick for pennies 2nd hand. SORTED!!
CD1, my fave. INDIE. Diff mixes of songs you know & love. Some only extended, others given radically diff mixes, especially "Fools Gold" and "Common People" but still great to listen to. Classics with a twist!!
CD2, POP. I would say nearer to dance, as I'm sure I remember some of these the last times I shuffled round a dance floor in earnest. "Devotion" and "Finally" my particular faves, but you may well have your own!
CD3, RAVE(??). Where does the dance end and the rave start?? YOU DECIDE!! Some songs are such classics they're just offered as orig mixes,Prodigy & Papua New Guinea. Bizzare Inc benefit from a new start, Xpansions is even better longer. My fave, Yeke Yeke, by More Kante, from the 10mins African music was "it"!!

Quality album which I never got round to buying 1st time round. An absolute essential now it's been re-released with the extra tracks. ALL the singles they're most famous for are here. A crafty mix of pop/electronica/percussion and Native American music. Might sound dull, but it fuses together perfectly. Try it, I guarantee this won't be the last time you "Lean On Me"!!
