3.0 out of 5 stars Decent enough, yet....., 11 Aug 2013
This review is from: Push The Sky Away (Audio CD)
Quite suprised by some of the rave reviews on here as anyone who knows Cave's work will know he's capable of much better than this. Just look at his back catalogue for some of the most incredible and downright genius songs ever to have been released! Every one of Cave's albums will have at least 5 songs that will wow you.

So we come to 'Push The Sky Away.' It's a decent enough album which took me many listens to get into. Very stripped back with none of the punch of his previous stuff. This as i said has decent enough songs, but nothing really grabs you by the balls. And where is the piano?!! Most of Cave's work features gorgeous piano work but on this it's nowhere to be heard.

This album is reminiscent to The Boatmans Call, but unfortunately doesen't come close to that masterpiece. Compare the tracks on this album to stuff like Stagger Lee, 15 feet of pure white snow, The Weeping Song, People they Ain't No Good and or When I First Came To Town and it's ordinaryness is all to evident.

Still, it's a Nick Cave album which means it's still better than most other music out there and it's also a grower. Not sure how much more it will grow on me, but with Nick Cave you get the unexpected!

I had Bullguard 2012 version, but the renewal fee was 50 plus pounds! I got this at a great price and it took mere minutes to install and be up and running. Does exactly what it says.

Took our two grandchildren abroad this year and thought these would be ideal for the pool and beach instead of cumbersome armbands. They worked so well and gave the children freedom to get in and out the pool with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning set, 28 Dec 2012

This really is a stunning boxset. All the Bond films in glorious Bluray! The picture and sound quality really is amazing. Its like seeing the films for the first time. Dr No which is 50 years old(!) looks brand spanking new, the detail in the picture just incredible!
The Spy Who Loved Me wich always looked awful on DVD now looks cleaned up and the picture is pin sharp.
The actual films themselves vary in quality and obviously everyone has their own favourites and their own ideas as to what a Bond film should be, but they're all here in a beautifully presented package and up till now this is the best they've ever looked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant!, 26 Dec 2012
Seeing this again on Bluray after seeing it at the cinema was an immense pleasure! The film rewards repeat viewings, for it is a dense, incident filled superhero movie!
Bale is superb in this and his Batman really is put through the ringer as he battles through some insurmountable battles. Tom Hardy is a revelation as the Brutal Bane, and has a brill opening in the amazing Bond-like plane heist sequence. The rest of the cast hold their own well and there are some memorable performances.
This is a brilliant film and probably the best of 2012. Stunning in everyway. See it!

Only just found out about this film and ordered it straight away as i'm a hge fan of the graphic novel. This animated film really does it justice and although its short it manages to cram in the entire graphic novel!

Its well animated and the voice work is good. Loved the fight scenes and the set piece where Batman is trapped in burning building surrounded by police is expertly realised. Will watch this film again and again!

Frank Skinner
Frank Skinner
by Frank Skinner
Edition: Paperback
Price: 6.29

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest book i've ever read!, 5 Nov 2012
This review is from: Frank Skinner (Paperback)
This is without a doubt the funniest book i've ever read! No word of a lie, i had tears of laughter running down my face at many points. It is though a very honest and sometimes moving account of Skinner's life from a poor but not unloved childhood to the present of 2001.

Frank's honesty really is moving at times and his writing feels as though he is talking just to the reader. His account of his mother and fathers deaths is heartrending and beautifully written.

Some of the stories in here though, be warned, will have you laughing till' you wet yourself! Frank's story of losing his viginity to a prostitute had me doubled up it was so funny and very crude indeed!

Can't recommend this book enough. Even if your a casual fan or just want a good autobiography to read, this is brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool watch at a good price, 19 May 2012

Always wanted one of these G-Shock watches but could never justify spending 80-100 pounds on a watch! As i was given some money for my birthday i saw this for 50 and splashed out! Its a great watch and i wasn't dissapointed. The instruction booklet was huge but i needn't have worried as its very easy to program and use.

Have since seen this same watch in a jewellers for 85! So a real good price on Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally the proper version is released and in glorious Blu-ray!, 11 April 2012
This review is from: Manhunter [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
The Blu-ray release of Manhunter will be cherished by fans of this superb film. For one this features the proper theatrical release with the missing dialogue where Graham sympathizes with the Tooth Fairy restored. And secondly the Blu-ray transfer is just stunning! Dante Spinotti's gorgeous photography has never looked so good! The picture really is pin sharp.
The directors cut is only in standard definition unfortunately, but i still think the original theatrical cut is better.
Miles better than Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon, Manhunter finally gets the release it deserves!

Leather Maiden
Leather Maiden
by Joe R. Lansdale
Edition: Hardcover

3.0 out of 5 stars For a Lansdale this is dissapointing, 3 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Leather Maiden (Hardcover)
I was looking forward to this being a massive fan of Big Joe, but i found it a rather dissapointing and dare i say it dreary read.
The plot isn't up to much and when we do find out the killers motives its something of a big so what.
Characters are also pretty thin, usually a Lansdale speciality. The main character is pretty dull, but fortunately Booger is a typically good Lansdale creation.
Not sure whats happened to Joe's writing recently as i was dissapointed with Lost Echos, Vanilla Ride and now this one.
I hope Lansdale can raise his game again, because at the moment it seems he's creativity has hit a brick wall.
