4.0 out of 5 stars Punk's Not Dead, 6 Jun. 2009
This review is from: Punk's Not Dead [DVD] (DVD)
Punk's Not Dead tells of the history of punk. It shows how punk has evolved from shouting anti government songs into something quite popular in the modern day. It starts with the Sex Pistols, Ramones and all the early punk bands. It then continues with the second generation. The momentum from the first early bands pushed these bands on. But it was still just shouting anti everything. Then bands like Green Day, The Offspring and Rancid came. These bands said they wanted to focus more on the song writing. These bands built up a big underground base. Suddenly everyone seemed to get bored with punk music and that's when they said punk had died. Then in the 90's there was a `punk revival', but in fact punk music had never really been away it had just gone back under ground. This DVD shows how bands like Sum 41, My Chemical Romance and Good Charlotte had gone main stream and created the genre of pop punk. Hardcore punks would say that they are sell outs but some also say they just put in loads of work and got a breakthrough and all their roots are punk. It is a very good, very informative DVD. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the history of popular music.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very readable, 8 Jan. 2009
This review is from: King of Shadows (Paperback)
This book has not matched or even come close to the success of her other books. That said it is still a very readable and enjoyable book. It starts off in modern times where Nat Field has caught the plague. But it's not him the real Nat Field has switched into Shakespeare's time. He goes there acting alongside Shakespeare doing a famous play. Why is he there? Well that's pretty much the whole storyline. There are a few twists towards the end but the rest of it is just as you'd expect. It's not as fun as books like the Dark is Rising and has not got as good a plot. The story gets is a little slow at times and I found the best bits were where she was writing about the plague. Overall it's OK to read if you like her, but if you want to enjoy her storytelling at its best read the Dark is Rising series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Film, 16 May 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Last Legion [DVD] (DVD)
Does a film have to be historically correct to be good? Or can a film still succeed with not many real facts in it? The Last Legion is about the fall of Rome and the birth of a legend. It starts of with a young boy Romulus. He is destined to be the ruler of Rome. But once he becomes Emperor his city crumbles under the invasion of the Goths. He's then forced to run with only bodyguards as protection to Britain. There are quite a few great battle scenes. The history of the movie may be suspect but in this case that doesn't really matter. It's there for entertainment not education. So while it is historically incorrect it's still an epic film for anyone over 12 to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boy Soldier, first in an exciting series!!, 15 May 2008
This review is from: Boy Soldier (Paperback)
This is the first of the explosive series by Andy McNab. Andy uses his experience as an SAS soldier in this book. It starts of with Danny's life long ambition to join the army. But his chance is destroyed when he finds out that his Grandfather (Fergus Watts) betrayed his country. Danny and his friend Elena start trying to locate Fergus. They find him by tracking his mobile. His house appears to be in the middle of nowhere but is it? Also Danny has ex-reporter Eddie Moyles, who wrote an article saying that Fergus Watts was a traitor, is on his case and trying to un-cover the true story. What Danny doesn't know is that people are on his case but why? When he finds his Grandfather will he discover the truth? Is Fergus the real traitor? He also has more to deal with that originally thought... I very much enjoyed this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Mysterious Novel, 19 Dec. 2007
This review is from: Ghost at the Window (Paperback)
This book is a story about how hate and fear hold us back. It's about a boy called Ewan who discovers the ghost of a young girl at his bedroom window. He then starts to realise that she's not really a ghost. She has been trapped in the time travelling house that Ewan and his family live in. All the girl wants is to go into the music, which seems to be heaven. Can Ewan help her to escape? And will he find out what's so evil about the cupboard in his room? To find all this out just read it. It's well written atmospheric and quite spooky at times. I recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great story from Robert Muchmore, 10 Dec. 2007
This review is from: Man vs Beast (Cherub) (Paperback)
This thrilling tale is about how James Adams (a CHERUB Agent), Kyle and Lauren (James's sister) have to try to infiltrate an animal rights organisation. They are all thrown into a world of extreme political violence. James and Kyle meet up with two brothers who want to get involved with the AFA (Animal Freedom Army). From there they find themselves in a world of political extremism meeting people that will do anything to help animals. James and Kyle hear of a massive plot that involves some sort of extreme violence. Will they go through with the plot? Will James and Kyle turn against CHERUB to save some animals? Read it and find out. This is a fast action paced thriller and well worth reading but the violence in the book makes it unsuitable for younger readers.
